Odd question

Hi guys and gals, i was wondering if it was possible to root my optimus v w/gingerbreak, install a recovery, and ONLY flash a kernel. I tried the search function for fear of flame but couldnt find a close enough answer. i just want to be sure as not to brick my shiny new phone. All my rom,kernel experience is with my unbrickable nook color running cm7. Just as a note i came form an Intercept and oh my god this phone makes it feel like a feature phone. Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Yes you can just flash a new kernel without changing roms.

If you just want to overclock the stock ROM pickasticks kernel should do the job nicely.
