Poor Data Speeds... VM or ...?

Okay first, i finally was able to accomplish swapping my PRL. My connection is much better, it connects to 3G faster, apps seems to connect in less time, but my speed itself is the same.
Which my speed for the past 4 months or so is horrible! I mean, i never hit 512k. Ever...
Most of the time, my Upload is faster than my Download. Its upsetting, its really slow xD
Idk what's wrong... any suggestions?
It can't be my area, i used to get like 1Mb and more.

I've noticed the speedtest app doesn't always pick the closest server, and in fact picks the most popular for VM's HQ, which are often swamped by other speedtest users. I've gotten better test results when I manually set it to a geographically closer (& less loaded) site. But that still doesn't explain some of the slow speeds during normal business hours vs at home on the evening/weekends. I've gotten anywhere from 100kbps to 1400 kbps. using Sprint's 0111 PRL.

my all-time top speed ever is just over 700. After midnight, on July 4 when no-one else was using their 3g.
my average speed's usually under 100.
I use nettraffic widget to monitor my speeds.
changing the prl didn't help my speeds noticeably, and using a tower id app I've only seen a different tower than the one I'm usually stuck on when I drive way out-of-town. I figure the tower I'm stuck with just has its bandwidth slammed by every sprint/nextel/vm phone in the county.

Actually my top was 1800 kbps since I remember thinking it was faster than my regular broadband at home

But that's very rare now, I expect about 100 kbps during peak hours, and 700kbps during evening hours.

I live in Twin Cities area, MN, & use speedtest.net app to Minnesota City, MN site (before it kept using sites in Kansas, which I suspect were overloaded.

My max was close to 2Mb, but for the past few months I've been getting from 90 kb to the 200s. Idk what's wrong. The closest server that the Speedtest app uses is about 120 miles away.

I found turning on gps helps the speedtest look for a better closer server. However I use mine mostly on wifi

Ugh, Wifi, don't even mention that crap. Mine works when it wants to. 90% of the time i turn it on and it automatically says connecting and it just stays like that, does nothing.

You could have a manufacturer defect, or more likely just a bad flash. Or your router's settings aren't compatible with your OV...

I think maybe a defect, but that sucks. Ive tried different routers and have formatted everything possible before flashing.
I bought this V before they officially came out xD Sprint store didn't have them but The Shack did.

I've had Sprint/VM for the last 5 years and have never gotten over 800kbps with any phone, anywhere. Sick of the slow speeds, moving to tmo asap

My VM speeds are always slow, but I also don't use the 3G data much....wow. Never really said that out loud, but have always said I didn't want to go postpaid because of the data caps.

im having the same problems with slow 3g speeds used to be fast but no more.. i got prl 61677.. BB rom 2.4
V6 supercharger
3g turbo script..that i disabled to try to fix my speed woes

Freaking sucks, yeah i HAD fast speeds, its alot slower now. And i rely on 3G... /:
I can't go postpaid... you have to be 21 here to sign a contract, I'm 18. XD Oh well. And yeah, data caps suck really bad.

Yessir it does. You can come here and it isnt roaming. And vice versa.

It could also be a location-based thing. Like how in some states you make a reservation for a hotel room at 18, and some you have to be 21.

Yup, exactly. Laws here are backwards. You're an adult at 21 here. I cant sign contracts, cant go to the Doctors or Hospital without my mom... things like that. BUTTTT, legal drinking age is 18. Same for cigarettes. So i cant get a phone, but i can drink and smoke whenever i want, being a minor? Backwards xD
Anyways, yes, cant go postpaid, so VM will be my carrier for a while(:
