Rooting on stock ZV5?

I bricked my previous optimus to no return (as in no android base unrooted with the modded recovery on it how I don't know)
So I proceeded to buy a new optimus V and it came with the following Software specs:
Android 2.2.2
Baseband version: VM670ZV5_60401001
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
lge@android-build #4
Build Number: ZV5.41C0E845
SW Version: VM670ZV5
HW Version: 1.2

Just curious as if this is capable of rooting. And no, I cannot update to the ZV9 update. It says my system is up to date with ZV5

The update to ZV9 you have to go to virgins website to get. Under frequently asked questions for the Optimus v. You can download and install from there. BUT, if your phone now has ZV5 I wouldn't do the update. You can use the one-click rooting methods with ZV5.
If you update to ZV9 then you need to see Jerry Scripts post for how to root the security update.

Oh and btw I can't update to ZV9. The file won't read on my phone and it says I am up to date.

You can't root ZV9 with gingerbreak, need to use adb commands.

BUT if you wanna to update, download the update file directly from VM site, not from your phone's update menu. Boot to recovery, then install from zip.

ALWAYS make a backup.

Yes gingerbread should work for ZV5. Just make sure you have USB debugging turned on.

As far as the update to ZV9 not working, you downloaded the file from virgin mobiles website, copied it to your ad card and when you try to flash it it says you are up to date? You're prob better off just staying with ZV5 anyway. I'm just curious why it's not working.

Okay yet again. I don't have the ZV9 update. I have ZV5. I wanna know I can still root with gingerbreak with ZV5 on my phone right? (it came preinstalled)
