I do know this. I actually accidentally deleted the stock ROM while in recovery. Instead of going back through the opti-sfx.exe, I downloaded the ZVJ update.zip. Flashed xionia recovery, factory reset, apply update. Zip and install jcase_rootme.zip.
Got my stock rooted GB back without the computer. Yay
Really? Is it that noticeable of difference in performance?

Well I don't want to say It'll help everyone because I'm sure it's a ymmv situation but myself and AndrewNelson both experienced noticeably better signal strength on LS670ZVJ

Changing firmware isn't easy but is better. The ZVJ radio/firmware update is true sprint.
The VM670(2.2.1/2.2.2 froyo) is a subversion of the LS670.
Take for example, when you update the ov (zv9) you still are running froyo. Updating the LS670 to ZVJ gets you to gingerbread and the updated sprint radio. All this at stock value.

Okay, a few more questions.
Can I run ZVJ on a custom V ROM (particularly MiRaGe)?
If I get to ZVJ, would I have to change the PRL, too?

Just to be sure if your going to try I suggest you save a qcn file from qpst and a nvs file as per this guide. Between the two you basically have your all your radio settings backed up.

This is a big help, anyone trying, I suggest use this to help get your data. This is thewraith420 method. I'm just copying and pasting for anyone who goes to the last reply.
I used this and it is a life(data) saver.
Again, this is not my work. Copied from an earlier post from thewraith420.

Thanks, I planned on reposting that anyways. You saved me having to find it again

When school is over, I will be a flashaholic, testing more stuff, porting more ROMs...etc. My optimus V is forever stuck on optimus u firmware. My optimus S running v firmware has reboot problems....but it seems to reboot less the longer you use a Rom (and not change it).
