I've had my phone since March,
I WISH this thing had more memory but otherwise I love it.
Sometimes it freezes, but I think I've figured out that it did that because I had too much on it.
I end up having to pick what apps I REALLY want, and what I can live with out.
Virgin has so many apps on here that I don't use. I'd like to root this, but I'm a little afraid to. I don't want to brick my phone.

Aside from the above, today the touch screen started acting up. First it acted strange, then it stopped working all together. I pulled the battery and let it sit for a half hour. When I turned it back on the touch screen is working, but seems off... like it needs calibrated? (If that's even possible)

Here's the technical info on my phone.

Anrid erion 2.2.2
Basbnd Verion VM670ZV5_60401001
Kernel vesion 2.6.32.9
SW Version VM670ZV5
HW version 1.2

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, I've also ready you can only ROOT if you have windows 7. Is that true?
I'm still on XP. Is there a way to do it with XP?

Thnk!

WEEELLLLLLL, since you're still on froyo, just download "gingerbreak 1.2" from the browser on your phone. This is what I always use. I've never had a problem with this ever. Once its downloaded tap on the finished download and install it. Open it up, tap root after following the on screen instructions, and it should reboot and you're done! You should have Superuser. That means you're rooted.

... and welcome to the optimus v section. They are right, gingerbreak is the way to go. Check out the stickies in this forum, especially LeslieAnn's ov reference guide, and the one called simplified root Rom and recovery. Everything you need is there. If you get stuck, just ask. There's lots of helpful people here.

THANKS!

It almost seems like it's too easy. lol
This will enable me to remove the stupid software Virgin has on the phone?

It is very easy
I would suggest installing a custom recovery menu
Then you can backup and wipe your phone, then flash a custom rom...it?ll bring the best out of your phone
Follow this guide and youll be golden

I am so nervous about doing this. If I screw up... I'm screwed. I NEED my phone for work. UGH!
Anxiety.

I would set aside an hr or 2 that you dont need your phone

If you screw it up it can be fixed, but if you follow that guide you should have no issues

Backup your sd to a pc first
Then once you root and install a custom recovery, you can backup your phone

Just dont rush and youll be fine
