Why do software developers program on Android mobile platform?

Hello programmers, I am a currently a student undergoing my final year project and wanted to know your views on why developers select to program on Android OS than other mobile devices? other than cost, i want would like to know information to what exactly it offers to attract programmers and grow. The description does not have be too long but key points would be appreciated.

Well I'd say its because the android open source model without limitations developers are free to develop to their hearts content and in doing so have made awesome features available drawing in customers to the android world this enables even more development
I do beloved android is the only mobile that can natively run a desktop os on a phone because of open source licensing
Also being based off of Java and c++
Wich have been around awhile helps to
Oh yeah also freedom to customize EVERYTHING

For crying out loud they are putting android on a game console
Google "OUYA GAME CONSOLE "
and if that doesn't represent strong revenue for a OS that's been around awhile I don't know what does

Since android is an open source platform developers need not struggle hard with coding. They can modify the codings that are available for free according to the applications that are being developed. This is one of the vital advantage for the developers to go with android platform.

Since you are student you can go for Android because it is open source. You can easily access the code of an another application and you can know more about that application. Android is one of the rapidly growing mobile platform..
