How is it that there is no release date or even a more general statement than Q2 .. or world release in summer. The Sony Xperia Ion was announced for AT&T in January and since then has vanished. Is it even worth waiting for this phone or should I start looking to others? If so, what AT&T smartphones are comparable or better?

According to the Xperia blog, Sony has been releasing a whole crapload of Xperia S, P, U, etc. etc. to other International countries (ie Japan, China, Europe, etc) ALL while completely ignoring the Xperia ion. I recommend NOT giving Sony your money and just look for other phones. Samsung has been releasing a whole array of beautiful phones and even the S3 in the coming months. Don't give Sony your money. They don't care about their American fans. PERIOD. Go buy another phone, you won't regret it.

I too, wanted the Xperia ion ever since I saw the videos on youtube. But this wait is absolutely ridiculous. We're vast approaching Q2 which should begin in a few weeks, yet still no word from Sony. It's pointless to keep waiting. I've become impatient and I now considered on getting the Galaxy Note this weekend.

AGAIN DO NOT Give Sony your money!! Buy Samsung!

Unfortunately the Galaxy Note is too big for me ... but I think you're right, this is crazy. I'll be starting my search this week for a new phone. Too bad, I've spent the last 2.5 months obsessing over the Xperia Ion ...

Am waiting for the Galaxy S2 HD LTE release here. Really liked what I saw with the Ion, but read somewhere that the battery was not removable. This edition of the S2 should be pretty solid when it comes out.

I too was waiting on the Ion. I think I'll have to move on. By the time it is released there should be Quad Core phones ready to go. I think I'll wait on the S3. My atrix isn't bugging me too much right now.

March 31st, huh?

Well that changes things. If I find out the same thing then it's still got a chance with me. I have other reasons for wanting the sony product, and in all honesty I'm not impressed with much else out there right now. Even the new HTC phone looks like it will be great, but I don't want a windows phone ...

Thanks for the info!

Well, I did my checking around before posting, but I can't find anything that confirms a March 31st release date. AT&T Customer Sales Support can't find anything about the device, AT&T stores have no information about the release and all they could say is that maybe it was being released in a different area ... that being said, they still could confirm any release information. And lastly there is still nothing on the internet.

DrDubzz, where are you located that you heard from an AT&T Rep that it was being released on the 31st. Sony and AT&T are keeping this as a best kept secret, which will only lead to very few sales ... this is very disappointing.

I was on the AT&T wireless website and 'live-chatted' with sales rep. I asked about the Ion and was told the 31st. Take it for what it's worth, I'll be interested to see if it ends up true

Thanks DrDubzz, maybe I will try the same thing. I have had AT&T do this to me before regarding release dates and then they just happen, no warning or anything.

I would dump them but I know so many people on the AT&T network it just makes sense for network-to-network cell minutes ... I can have the minimum minute plan ...

That is unconfirmed. The reason I started this thread was because I saw that but couldn't verify the date. I can tell you this:

No other site claims March 31 as the release date.
AT&T (customer service phone line, chat specialists and stores) has no idea when the phone will be released. I couldn't even get them to admit it existed ... others have had different answers, but this is my personal experience.
Sony, via chat support, says the release date is Q2 ... I asked if there was something more specific, an actual date maybe, and they just said, "I don't understand, I told you the release date. It's Q2, sometime between April and the end of June.

That being said I've moved my eyes to other phones. If this gets released before I've picked something else, then maybe I'll still get it, but AT&T are ridiculous.

I've already decided to just wait for the GSIII or maybe even just get an iPhone. Everything in my house is Apple except for my captivate. And I actually only got the captivate to avoid having an Apple monopoly in the house and then really enjoyed customizing it.

But a jailbroken 4S would meet 99% of my needs, I would just like a 4 inch screen
