OK - I've been looking for an Android tablet, smaller preferred just to keep me current on Android.
I've got a couple of rooted/rom'd devices which run OK, but I just want to keep up with the Jones's using the real thing.
I checked out HP's new Slate 7 - just didn't have the screen I wanted. Friends have the N7 and love it. I was about to buy one, when I saw the announcement on the Sero. (this was the day of launch)., so headed out on the day after launch to pick one up.
Compared to my other devices, no contest, the Sero besting everything.
I loaded it up with everything I could think of (except my banking app, which isn't compatible with many Android tablets). I'm not a gamer, but loaded one just to test. Performed just fine.
Screen was stellar, touch was fine, speakers/volume just OK - not enough volume in my book, performance is great. I found the screen shot button a nuisance, but got used to it.
Screen rotation worked fine, charging and battery just fine. Mic worked great with Google Now, haptic feedback worked fine, LOVED the new swype like keyboard in the new version of the OS.
Liked the back of the case, though does give off a pretty strong synthetic rubber smell.
I use Nova launcher, so that takes the place of a lot of the new features of the OS, but I'm used it. Worked fine.
Addition of the rear cam nice, but I'd never use it.
Mini HDMI - again, wouldn't use it.
SD slot - great, but doesn't perform the function I want it to anymore - this vexed me, so did a lot of research to find that the newer versions of Android OS will not allow most apps to write to the card. This was a deal breaker #1 for me. Not that I'll find one better with an SD card slot that will work, it's now designed into the OS to limit this function. I do a bit of reading/research, etc and use Zinio and Kindle apps. Both take up a bit of room and the SD card didn't help, so stuck with the 8G internal.
From what I saw, everything I wanted in a tablet.
The other deal breaker for me is the likelihood that this cheaper unit might never be able to upgrade to newer versions of the OS
Since I want to keep up with the newer version(s) of the OS, this was what made me take it back.
Hated to part with it, but it went back this morning.
I'll miss it, but holding out for a new model Nexus 7 hopefully soon - the ability to upgrade to newer versions of the OS was a major reason I wanted to get into a smaller Android tab.
For me, even the std Nexus 7 today with 16G will give me the space I need to hold magazines and books with my 2 apps which let me do this.
Great buy, great value, just wasn't for me.
Cheers!
