I'm trying to decide whether or not to give straight talk a try verses sticking with T-Mobile...you can't beat their 45 dollar plan that now includes 3GB's of data (up from 2.5GB) but I'm kinda nervous doing business with prepaid carriers because there is no store to go to if you can't get problems resolved over the phone.
First I'm confused on what SIM to pick when I order my starter kit. I have a Nexus 5, purchased from Google Play Store which is unlocked so it can be used on T-Mobile or AT&T's network (as well as Sprint's too but ST doesn't work with Sprint.) So when it comes to picking a SIM card the following options are present:
-My phone is an unlocked GSM phone operating in 850 and 1900 MHz bands.
-My phone is a GSM T-Mobile compatible phone.
-My phone is a GSM AT&T compatible phone.
Since my phone is unlocked and purchased directly from Google, I assume I would want to select the first option? Can someone please clarify? If the first option is correct then my only choice for a SIM card is to go with AT&T (which I have no issues with.) Also I had heard rumors that if you picked a T-Mobile SIM that T-Mobile SIM's were not compatible with LTE (which is strange because T-Mobile has LTE...
Moving on from the above...will the SIM card update any of the APN settings, etc that need to be adjusted/updated on the phone so that my internet and MMS will work correctly or do I have to manually change them myself? If so, what are the settings that I would need and how do I find them if the information doesn't come with my starter kit?
I have tried calling customer support for Straight Talk to ask these questions, the rumors that are around the internet about their customer service is very true...wait times to speak to anyone are extremely LONG and all the reps are overseas and you can't understand a word they are saying and they don't understand you (typical in this day and age and extremely annoying and frustrating when trying to conduct business anymore from the states.) I just worry that if I run into issues that the issues won't get resolved over the phone and I'll have nowhere to go for support and who wants to get stuck in a situation like that?
Hoping that some folks here have ST and can chime in here and help me out and maybe put my fears to rest, the deal is terrific and blows T-Mobile out of the water (data wise) so if the service really works and works well, I'd really like to try them out to test the waters. I live in the DC area so coverage is no issue around here with AT&T, T-Mobile, etc...

P.S. I also heard rumors that porting your number over to them is a nightmare, that folks have lost their numbers because Straight Talk screwed up their port...that terrifies me as my number is 11 years old and I definitely DO NOT want to lose it.
