Re: S6 or M9

I visit head-fi a lot and every snapdragon DAC has been horrible so why wouldn't the one be in the snapdragon 810? I consider buying an iPhone just for the superior DAC but I haven't yet. Might consider buying a iPod touch just for the better music player but idk don't feel like having that and a phone lol

S6 or M9

Most of Western Europe uses the Snapdragon model I believe. There's only a few models that use the exynos which is some countries in Eastern Europe like Poland , and then there is Korea which has both the snapdragon 805 cpu and exynos model

I'm lead to believe that's the snapdragon model .

Plus I've had a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and a note 3 and the same time and the tablet with the exynos sound 500 times better then the note 3 which has the Qualcomm snapdragon 800 cpu

Can't comment about HTC but I find Samsung the better radios ....had a Motorola droid turbo and couldn't pick up a signal inside my apartment while my note 4 can. I also have an iPad which is just as good if not better

The HTC one m8 faired well on head-fi. Anyways we are arguing on the audio quality before we did any testing on the unit. At least of head-fi the m8 seems to be well received.

Re: S6 or M9

I couldn't have been more underwhelmed with the M9. The presentation was really lacking and the presenters themselves didn't seem all that interested in their own device. I don't blame them. There's so very little that separates this from the M8 that I couldn't imagine being excited for this if I had/used to have the M9. They got rave reviews for their design one too many times and it's gone to their head. It's nice, sure, but it's not that nice.

As far as the S6 goes, they took a much larger leap. The Exynos 7420/3GB of DDR4 RAM/UFS storage alone may have made me want it. That shows me a huge concentration was put on efficiency, but coupled with a lot of raw power. I absolutely love the Note 4's camera and this looks to have improved upon that even more. A f1.9 aperture on the front and back will go a long way towards low light performance. The fingerprint sensor looks to be a Touch ID competitor. The screen looks ridiculous. The design on both versions look insanely premium.

What got me onboard, though? Touchwiz looks fast. Like Nexus 6 fast, but without the quad HD stutter and issues with read/write performance because of encryption. Toss out the typical Touchwiz jank and there's just so little to complain about on the software side. This phone is going to be a monster.

M9 or S6? I think that choice is pretty easy this year.

As much as I love audio I'll sacrifice it for a better phone experience, I could care less how good the M8 sounds because I hate that build , I hate the ultra pixel camera and I don't like sense.

And as far as the M9 goes I'll guess I'll end up with a note 5 wait even though this build is intriguing me or a LG G4. I don't like the build as I said and the 20 megapixel camera is pretty bad from what I've read

I'm tempted to get a S6 to replace my note 4 lol because of the build and the theory of a good exynos cpu

Re: S6 or M9

I remember a couple of years ago I was ranting here about the weak samsung radios, I used the my "Publix" test, LOL.
When I had my HTC, I could walk into my publix store and get a good signal walking the whole store. When I got my samsung, soon as I walked in the door I had zero bars, I was pissed, LOL.
Fast forward to last night, I went out for a bit to donate to my local casino and I had 1x signal and the phone was burning up, I had to shut it off to conserve battery.
Also, another issue we have is the home wifi routers with 5G, if you dont put your chanel on 44, you keep dropping..:(

I personally hate touchwiz and could not go a day with it. The micro SD card is huge for me and do not want to go back to not having one. The 20 mp camera is F2.0 with a 1/2.4" sensor. It is larger than the one on my current phone the lumia 1520, and it should be very capable sensor. I would wait for final software on shipping units before testing the camera. With HTC, being at ATT they allow for all of their devices to have their bootloaders unlocked and that is a huge deal for me. I want a decent camera on my phone as when I do serious shooting I will whip out my D610. The M9 does have DDR4 ram, see anandtech link below.

I don't care about DDR4 not even a factor in my liking the s6 . I hate sense with a passion and like touchwiz ...non issue when you can slap skins over it . I only have a smartphone for a camera since I have no really need for a fancy one. The HTC m9 takes some horrible picture though based off cnet and Im on the side of believing them ....

I wouldn't side with cnet for an accurate camera test based on pre-production software. Since this will be your main camera then the S6 may be the better choice because of the OIS, which will allow for better low light pictures. Both the M9 and S6 have DDR4 ram which is huge but the S6 has faster storage technology which is an advantage. Samsung has a better history with camera's but wait for a camera test from anandtech or someone reputable for cameras before making the decision. The problem with Android lollipop is that if there is a locked bootloader there is no possible way to get root access, so from this point on we will be stuck with what the phone comes with. HTC and Sony have a developer program to allow one to get their bootloader unlocked though. If by skin you meant a launcher than I may have been confused.

IDC about locked or unlocked bootloaders since I don't root my devices at all nor do I desire to . Never jailbreak any iOS devices either ( did it once to sell it ) plus Samsung does offer a developer edition for its devices on Verizon at least.

And yes I meant launchers :)

Re: S6 or M9

It's funny to read some comments of HTC fans saying M9's 1080p screen as advantage over QHD AMOLED of S6. What they don't realize is big difference in power efficiency between LCD and AMOLED screens. AMOLED is way better than LCD on power efficiency at high resolution. I think this is why HTC is doing only 1080p screens three years in a row.

There is going to be more overhead on the processor to process the animations in the OS with 1440p over 1080p. Since there are more pixels to power there will be a higher usage of power, so it is safe to say the M9 will have better battery life. There was no need to go to 1440p this year, 1080p is suffice on a 5 inch display. On a phablet, I would nod my head to 1440p as it makes more sense there, but it does not make much sense in this case. Samsung doing a 2500 mAh battery is either dumb or just risky. The SOC is 14 nm, and DDR4 ram is being utilized, but I do not think that they are going to be able to make magical battery life with these specs. 2850 with less resolution on the HTC will mean better battery life, I nod my head to HTC.

Oh, I agree.

The M9 is still gorgeous, though it looks a tad old by now.

The S6 is a welcome design refresh, but they've made far too many compromises for that design IMHO.

Re: S6 or M9

It's a really close call for me. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Both seem like really well done, capable devices. I've mostly been using HTC phones for the last two years, but the S6 impressed me more than the One M9 did. I guess because the M9 felt so familiar. Looks extremely similar to the M8 despite a few hardware changes. Most changes seem internal and in the software. A camera improvement was needed, but from initial reports, it sounds like the Galaxy S6 has the better camera.

If I go to the S6, I know I'm going to miss the dual front facing speakers, miss the metal unibody, Sense's clean, super quick design. But then if I get the One M9, I'll be using a phone with an average to decent camera 3 years in a row and I'm kind of over it. And Samsung have the best screens in the business at the moment.

I'll have to see them both in person to weigh up the two. I'm sure I'd be happy with either device, I just have to nitpick between the two to see which one I want to go with.

Shame LG and Sony didn't reveal their flagships. Could help in the decision making process.
