Your new Android phone may be broadcasting your location history to anyone within Wi-Fi range that wants to listen, even when your phone's screen is off and it's not connected to a Wi-Fi network, the Electronic Frontier Foundaton discovered.

This location history comes in the form of the names of wireless networks your phone has previously connected to -- for example, your home's Wi-fi network. EFF says that this data is dangerous because it clearly denotes in human language places that you've spent enough time to use the Wi-Fi.

EFF discovered that many of the modern Android phones leaked the names of the networks stored in their settings (up to a limit of fifteen).

Some other platforms also suffer from this problem although for various reasons, EFF says Android devices appear to pose the greatest privacy risk at the moment.
Your Android Phone Is Telling the World Where You've Been

Protective Steps You Can Take Today

With that said, a workaround is available (for most devices) for users who want to protect their privacy right now: go into your phone’s “Advanced Wi-Fi” settings and set the “Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep” option to “Never”. Unfortunately this will cause a moderate increase in data usage and power consumption—something users shouldn't have to do in order to keep their phone from telling everyone everywhere they're been.

This is another example of an imaginary problem. Nobody is going to follow me around to figure out what WiFi networks I connect to, and no hacker is going to care. Even if, in some wonderland where I was being followed about town by spooks in suits and dark glasses, they could find out which networks I connected to, why on earth would I care?

And you're right: why would you – the American people – care? You couldn't change it if you tried. You're powerless.

Did that already, still don't care really. Got more pressing issues to deal with besides the government knowing some things about me.

Lol, sheeple are those who are ignorant and or uninformed of the situation, I know about the situation very well, it's just that my life has more pressing issues to worry about. It is not a problem keeping me up at night.

When you try to argue with conspiracy theorists, you've already lost. Any rational counterclaim gets folded into their narrative of propaganda, disinformation, and common ignorance. It's why I didn't bother replying to DR in the first place. :P

You guys can laugh. You didn't get audited by the IRS for disagreeing with the president. If you ever are, no matter your position or the position of the admin in power, you might have a different opinion of the fact the govt has these powers that the people never granted to it. Plus you're young and you don't have direct experience of how vastly the country has changed or how close in recent history we are to incredible horrors committed by governments against their people.

Age has nothing to do with knowledge, and I am pretty sure this country had always done some undercover crazy junk, look at recent stuff that was declassified and see what I mean.

I think because of how relevant technology is, it makes it harder for the government to keep things secret.

I don't either, but I am old enough and knowledgeable to know some things and I am just as capable as anyone to participate in a discussion about our government.

Because despite popular belief, the government has not nullified rights specifically stated in the Bill of Rights. Freedom of Speech is still very much alive, especially considering the amount of people of who rag on the President in the media nowadays.
