Accidentally OTA'd 6.12.173.

Was not prepared to restore root using Rootkeeper or other app.

Has anyone successfully used an already existing root method to root again after OTA'ing 6.12.173?

Thanks.

I am in the same boat. Give it time, someone will crack it soon. I had the same issue on my X and it took a couple weeks, but it happened. I just hope it doesn't take a couple weeks. I use my tether more often than I would like to admit.

Worked like a charm. Now rooted on latest OTA update.

is there a way to re-root my razr after being updated without rootkeeper?

No. If you did the update, you have to back flash. If you can wait a few weeks, I am sure someone will crack.

Yes, the above link won't lead to a successful root after 6.1.173, but the link to Dan Rosenberg's site works great, and takes less than 4 minutes:

Also, there is a great utility that has 17 contingencies built in that, while a big file, can help plan for the future, including Root for ICS.

This utility does the following:

1. Restore Droid Razr to 6.12.173
2. Droid Root for 2.3.6 (motofail)
3. Unroot
4. Install Voodoo's OTA Rootkeeper App
5. Install Bootstrap Recovery App
6. Install Safestrap Recovery App
7. Overclock install
8. System Pull
9. Droid Razr Root for ICS 4.0.3
10. Boot into fastboot from Debuggin
11. Boot Normally from Fastboot
12. Boot into Motorola Recovery from Debugging
14. ADB Shell
15. Wipe Data/Cache
16. Attempt Bootloader Unlock
17. Reboot Phone

just a FYI....go to the end of the posts(#11 I think) for http://forums.androidcentral.com/razr-rooting-roms-hacks/140251-root-method-xda.html for 6.12.173 updated root method. It was posted on Feb 15 with the MotoFail Universal Portable Version. Its much easier for users without much knowledge or get confused about what to do.

All you have to do is click on the downloaded file and it does its magic......

Re: Anyone successfully re-root after 6.12.173 OTA w/o Rootkeeper

I'm on 6.12.181. Xt912. I lost root with no doorkeeper. I know i need to flash sbf since I deleted bloat ware. I have RSd lite and both sbf files. My question is do I restore using 6.12.181 or 178 to restore factory with bloat ware so that I can reboot and use doorkeeper. Thank u
