fm radio?
Has anyone had any luck with the fm radio using either an unlocked/rooted rezound or with one of the ICS ROMs (or even a cleaned gb ROM)?

Re: fm radio?
Nope, there's a pretty good/long thread on this over at XDA. They found that there is indeed a radio chip built into the wireless card, however nobody knows how to get at it. We might see further hints on how to access it with full HTC Source of ICS.

Re: fm radio?
I've read that thread (unless there's some other thread I missed) and the latest post pre-dates unlocking/root access/clean roms/ICS.
Hoping for some progress/revelations with the recent developments.

Re: fm radio?
Back again for more punishment on this issue.
It seems that the Vivid has a functional fm radio.
Anybody know where to get an apk to try on Rezound? - 03-16-2012, 03:43 AM #6

Re: fm radio?
A lot of those other radio apps have been tested and while they install, they either FC or never pick up a signal. I'm personally still wondering why we can't get digital HD radio tuners in our phones instead of Analog FM tuners. Wouldn't that make more sense??

Re: fm radio?
That's what caught my attention, it was purported to work on a HTC device. Your likely correct that it will install like others but fc when initiated. Just figured it might be worth a try until the Vivids .apk surfaces.
That's likely why they don't, it would make sense to do just that. Not trying to troll but I kinda wonder if the native radio app was shelved so people would go third party and rack up data using them, ala , pre installed Slacker bloat. Given that the TBolt had it before tiered plans went into effect.
True, but third party apps rack up data usage that a native fm radio does not. Which could play a role w/ someone using it on a tiered plan. - 03-16-2012, 08:35 PM

Re: fm radio?
My brother-in-law who has a Dinc with working fm asked me why I would even want one... Do I really listen to fm radio?
No, HOWEVER (and everybody should recognize the importance here), I want it as an emergency information receiver.
In the event of a disaster or other emergency, data networks will likely be down. FM radio would give you a chance to get news/info that may otherwise be impossible to receive.
So many people carry smart phones, who carries an fm radio?
Disabling or crippling the fm radio is doing a disservice to the consumer... I almost feel that the feature should be mandated for just such a reason.
He agreed that was a valid reason to want it.Last edited by SurfingJerry; 03-16-2012 at 11:46 PM.
