Petrified
Okay so i am officially petrified of doing this flashing thing.
Twice now i power off the phone to do the flash the ruu for ics and i couldn't "pull the trigger". I have this serious paranoia of seriously messing up my phone, Now i realize that many had done this with no repurcussions and are really digging the ics goodness, but i just know that i got a bum download and something is going to go very wrong. What are some of this issues folks have had with this current build?
I know it will wipe my phone and i will have to set up everything again and that will be a pain in the arse, Guess i should take a nerve pill and just DO IT, but im petrified............Peace

Honestly I was afraid to since the last time I flashed a rom (on my old captivate) I bricked it(or so I thought), but I haven't found an issue yet. Smoother, getting better battery life and if I can't get the official update like many are stating (we don't know yet) I'd be totally happy because its so solid.

Re: Petrified
Check the MD5 hash, if it matches then there is not need to worry about a bad download. If you are that nervous, just wait on the OTA, shouldn't be more than a couple of weeks.

Re: Petrified
If it's making you that anxious you don't need to be messing with it. It's supposed to be a phone, not something you have to talk about in therapy.

Re: Petrified
I was leery the first time too. It it didn't help me that when it flashes the print is too small for my old eyes. Then, while flashing, it got part way through, and, it appeared to error out - (turns out this is normal). The phone appears to shut off, and, I am thinking - OMG. But, I go through the flashing again, and, it all appears to update fine. One final re-boot, and, it is up and going. This update process takes a lot of battery.
One other thing, if you do decide to do the update, you might want to write down some of your settings. Re-doing my set up is the biggest pain. Just make sure your important stuff is backed up. The process seems scarier, than, it really is. good luck - 05-12-2012, 08:53 AM

Re: Petrified
i think the root of my anxiety is that my phone is running fantastic right now. battery life for my usage is good, and i have absolutely no issues whatsoever, all is as it should be
i cant grasp that my phone will be better, battery life improved, runs great, etc....Peace

Re: Petrified
You sound like a serial flasher in making. I've often questioned why I feel the need to flash another ROM when the one I'm currently using runs great and everything is set up just the way I want it. But then I remember, oh yeah I'm a serial flasher and I like flashing ROMs and seeing what else is out there.
Honestly the hardest part is just getting everything re-set up again.
But if it really makes you worry then I wouldn't bother. Just enjoy the heck out of the awesome piece of hardware you've got."I drank what?" -Socrates - 05-12-2012, 09:01 AM #10~Janet~

I completely understand your worries. I more or less have them too just cause I don't want to ruin the good thing I have going. I guess it's like getting engaged or something:rolleyes: it's the next step in my phone relationship and I am getting cold feet. I have read the guides and such so many times now that I am pretty sure that I could do the whole process without looking at one and yet I am still hesitant.
That all being said, I said that if this rumor passed with no definite path for the future I would do what needed to be done, and I don't like making a lier out of myself
we will see how today and tomorrow goes.

The problem here is we don't know if leozdad is rooted or not and Titanium requires root to work. You don't have to be rooted to run an RUU and from the way his original post read I suspect he's not.
As to your question, if you back up with titanium (the backup being for your apps only) they will restore just fine with whatever ROM your running even stock ICS as long as you are rooted. Now, can you accept the OTA ICS and still attain root afterwards or will they have "fixed" the exploit used to gain root...well that parts always a gamble. I've found it better to root before the chance goes away then wait for a dev to put out a stock debloated ROM rather than just accept the crap Verizon will dish out with no chance to remove what I feel is unnecessary. You can always unroot if you decide you don't like it.

Re: Petrified
Okay..... so i decided not to do the upgrade and just tweak my phone a bit with some new customizations..phone was running GREAT!, i power down this morning as is my weekly ritual, and my phone goes into an endless boot loop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tried everything i could think of, battery pull, sim card pull, still the boot loop, so fortunately i had backed up my files to my external sd card and had the ics build file already on my ex sd card ready to go... i though screw it,,,, HERE WE GO!!!!!!

Re: Petrified
Until last night, I would've said the same thing b/c that makes sense. Given that these people are irrationally anxious about it. I kinda shifted the opposite way only becauase so many here are still scared to do the rather minimal amout of legwork to unlock and root. At least, by flashing these candidates, they can see flashing isn't all that bad and they might have more confidence if/when the time dictates heading over to htc-devs to get the lock cut off and really tear this can open.
Good for you, I'm sure you'll enjoy what you see a bit more than you did on GB. - 05-13-2012, 09:16 AM

I know how you feel. I used to flash phones to cricket for a living, and had no issues flashing other people's phones. But when it comes to mine I couldn't do it. Finally I just said whatever. I started with the CIS leak and liked it. But I wanted sense 4.0 so I rooted and did s-off. Then I installed the venisaur Rom and love it. Sometimes you just have to say the heck with it and just do it. Just remember it is very hard to permanently brick these phones. Most everything can be reversed and the forums here are a great source of help.

Re: Petrified
if you havent soft bricked your phone, you either follow instructions too well or do not flash enough

Re: Petrified
I almost hate to say this b/c I don't wanna scare anybody away that's on the fence about the subject but they proved inevitable for me, although alot less frequent after 4 mos. I assume everyone has had a what the heck did I just do now moment or 5 last what seems like an eternity. (At least, I like to think that, as not to feel inferior w/ the peeps on xda). Which can be somewhat horrific if you don't have working wifi access at the time b/c you were foolish enough to think you got the hang of it and decided to forego jotting down or slapping a cheat sheet on the desktop. Troubleshooting all by your lonesome sucks in times of panic. I'm not quick to jump on alpha & beta roms, so thankfully & gratefully, people have always suffered the scenario before me so their pain works to my gain. I don't know how it's been to most of you guys but it's certainly been quirky for me on the Rezound.

Re: Petrified
I remember almost crapping my pants a few times messing around with my OG Droid. Even when CleanTool came out for the Rezound, I remember screwing something up and nervously trying to turn my phone on but the screen remained black for what felt like an eternity.
Like you, I also stay away from ROMs until the more experienced and daring take up the tasks.
