Resetting up phone

Okay, i get that when you root it will wipe your phone, but once you are rooted, do you have to reset up everything everytime you flash a rom?

I'd suggest that you invest in Titanium Backup Pro or MyBackup Pro. The root features allow you to backup applications and settings so that you don't have to setup everything all over again. However some ROMs will suggest against using these products. I've just grown accustomed to setting up apps every time I drop a new ROM on my phone.

And how often do you "drop a new ROM"?

If i am using things like go launcher and other go products, and i have my phone setup the way i like, what cant i do with these products that i CAN do with rooting and ROMing?

Seems to me repeated ROMing would make you spend an awful lot of time with your phone

Hence the flash-aholics anonymous jokes that float around. I only change ROMs when the one I'm working on is either updated(with something significant) OR when I want to try a new one. These are usually few and far between since I need my phone working more often than not.

Also since I do my own themes it's a pain to port everything to a new ROM so for me it's a lot less often than most.

when you say "themes" do you mean themes as in go launcher type ? and where would one find them?

what would you all suggest for my first ROM? I have heard mention of a few but most heard was of scotts clean rom, which i went to his site and checked it out but i really don't know what i am reading.

Your recommendations......

I do my own custom icons etc.

Start with CleanROM. It's like a cleaned up stock ROM with customizations that are well worth while.

I agree... Scott's CleanROM is an excellent Rom and his developer support is great... I am currently using CleanROM 4.5 Pro and it runs smooth and fast.

do programs like go launcher work on rooted phones? I have purchased a few themes so just wondering if i can use them or not. is xda the on;y place to find new icons?

when you put on a new theme does it wipe your phone again like flashing a rom?

Go Launcher works on rooted phones. There are tons of places for themes, it all depends on what you're looking for. A theme like mine(which is really just a mod) doesn't erase anything, but does need to be flashed via recovery.
