Default come to rom choice now

thanks for guys solving my trouble first.

my phone is rooted now. then i need to pick a proper rom. did some reading. looking at nils' rom, vigor360 rom and ineffabilis rom.

    a few questions here.

    1) what is the difference to flash sense 4.0 or 3.6 based roms? do i need to flash anything else if i pick a 4.0 rom? my phone is s on with ruu 4.0.3.605.2.

    2) is that complicated for a s on phone to switch one rom to another?

3)which global rom do you prefer?

    thank you guys.

Sense 4, IMO, is way, WAY better than 3.6. If you hold out a day, Newtoroot is going to update his xxx rom, sounds like monday or tuesday possibly. His is rock solid, and you should be able to stay with it long term.

Sense 4 has different lock screen options, my favorite put all your notifications in nice little bubbles you can flip through without unlocking your phone.
The way you add widgets is also quite different, and quite possibly, the best way I've seen.
There are some cool animations, like when you get to the bottom of a scrolling list, all the options kind of rubberband away from each other.
    Faster
There are more, I just can't remember them right now. But if your thinking sense roms, Sense4 is fanstastical.

Edit. .. if your s-on, you have to pull the .boot image out of the rom and flash it with fastboot.... Any roms that have the aroma installer though, will put the PH file on your sd card, then after the rom flashes, you just go into hboot and run that PH file... don't forget to delete it right away, or I promise tons of sadness if you need to get to recovery through hboot.
What do you give Akop? A doughnut.....

if i pick a sense 4.0 rom, what i need to do is just flash the rom and flash the kernel, right? i do not need to do anything more compared with flashing sense 3.6 based rom? thx

You are correct. The ROM itself has the Sense version "baked into it. "

The S-on kernel thing is really no big deal. Typically if the ROM is set up for it after its done flashing, the kernel gets put onto your SD card as a PH98IMG file. So ROM flashes, you boot from Amon Ra directly to hoot (there should be an option to go directly to it in the Amon Ra main menu or developer menu). Once in hboot it will find the kernel file and ask you if you want to update ,tell it yes and it will. Then you boot to the ROM, get set up and running then get the PH98IMG file off the SD card.

Then don't forget to enjoy your new awesome ROM. And I agree with twolastnames...sense 4 is by far superior.

Oh yeah! The amount of customization for a Sense-based ROM is unequaled...at least it was when I installed it at the end of July. There could be others that have caught up and surpassed but this ROM has run like a top for me. If I weren't going to run Venom though I'd go with Nils Business Gingersense Sense 4 version. His work is fantastic and I believe he incorporates many of the leedriod tweaks.

I believe there are ROMs out there for GSM only. As I understand it, and I could be wrong here, the global RUU allows us to roam with voice on GSM networks overseas with a pre-paid sim card but I'm not sure about data and text.

That is good to hear. I'm having problems with my keyboard not working on forums(might be my rom) unless I use chrome. I'm not real thrilled with chrome. I will be moving this week so it might be a couple weeks before I'm ready to tackle venom. When I do I'm sure I'll have some questions

yes, i know there is some pure gsm rom. but the pure gsm means the phone could not roam with cdma+lte or the gsm is just the bonus?

the install instruction of venom rom says user could chose cdma/gsm preference. i do not know if it allows switch between both modes or could only pick one of them.

No prob, we'll be here. Incidentally, I used Chrome for a few weeks but went back to stock browser. Just seemed simpler to use or maybe I was just used to stock. Chrome just wasn't the mobile browser breakthrough I thought it would be. Uninstalled.

Unrelated note...prepping for a move myself so take this with all sincerity...Good luck and don't go insane.

Ok Wanda, I thought I would wait a while but chrome and the thought of missing out on a great rom is killing me. I am s-on, unlocked and on the global ruu. Do I put the rom on my ext-sd , then put the kernel from "TEAM VENOM ROM" post #68(video fix)on my ext-sd also, then flash rom then flash kernel?

If youre s-on after you flash the rom you'll most likely be taken to the boot loader screen where it will ask you if you want to update. Tell it yes, let it update (flash kernel) and then boot into the rom. Go through the set up then get the PH98IMG file off your as card using whatever method you choose. Only then would I flash the next kernel. And to do that you'll probably have to extract the boot.img file from it then push it to the phone via Adb. Not difficult just a multi-step process

Just to be clear your talking about vinylfreak89's sense 4 with video fix kernel right? If that is the kernel your talking about it will only flash in recovery if your s-on.

Ok , I did everything except get rid of the PH98IMG(which I will do next) and yes I want to install vinylfreak89's sense with video fix. This is what you did and you said it made a difference correct

Got rid of the PH98IMG off the ext-sd. I also see boot.img on the ext-sd is it ok to leave it or do I get rid of it

Get rid of both. You don't have to delete it off your pc but you don't want multiple files of the same name on your card.

Next is to download vinylfreak89 kernel to your pc and get the boot.img file out of it. Put it in a folder you can easily find. Push it to your phone from your computer using adb (the same way you unlocked your phone, and probably got a amon ra on there to) push it to the phone. I forget the command... Something like "c: boot flash boot.img" a quick Google search of "flash kernel via adb rezound" should bring you the proper commands.

Thanks guys. Never was very good with command stuff.

Sbb888, where is your android sdk folder...that's the path you need to input so the pc can find the boot file and push it to the phone.

When you flash a new kernel you should wipe the cache and dalvic cache. NOT the factory reset/data and data.

You'd probably know if it didn't flash...your phone would be Tango Uniform right now. Or you'd have gotten some kind of error message from the command prompt.
