My Epic on 2.1 is still wanting 2.2 let alone 2.3.
Samsung is not in charge of software in this case, Google is. If it is a pure Google experience (like it is Rumored to be) then you will get updates before anyone even has an announcement

I would get a Nexus phone only if it had all 3 of the following things:

    1) Availablity on Verizon
    2) LTE capability
    3) It was made by Motorola

Going through posts he's made in other threads, it seems he has an issue with the phone being called the Nexus *S*.

To which I have four responses:

    • Eric Schmidt said there wouldn't be a Nexus Two. So, there won't be.
    • Why not? It denotes, in my view quite tastefully the manufacturer of the phone, especially when you consider that this second Nexus is being made by a different one than the first.
    • Back to the first point: I'm not sure whether this was noticed by bloggers or mentioned during Eric Schmidt's interview at the Web 2.0 Summit, but an S looks alot like a 2, if you flip it horizontally.
    • He mentioned TouchWiz in one post; which makes absolutely no sense to me considering that the one thing we know for sure is that it's running vanilla Android. Furthermore, that'd be as ridiculous as the Nexus One (as in, the Google branded Nexus One, not the Desire/Incredible phones) running HTC Sense as default.

As i said in another post, people are misinformed about the product before even seeing it. I read in some post that ppl said if the Nexus S have Bing, they are not buying it. Bing on a Nexus???? Seriously??? Anyway, if these people dont like Samsung making the Nexus S, then simply dont buy it. But I wouldnt be surprise if some of these people that is bashing the Nexus S now, go out and buy it later on.

Honestly people, Samsung has the best hardware on the market, however everyone is comparing it to Galaxy S, which was only crippled by software. Even then Samsung is one of the best Android handset manufacturers out there. With more variety and quality, Samsung might have been the very best choice for Nexus, considering HTC has been having problems with supplies(especially their MEH screens) and Motorola being only on Verizon. Still we still have to see when it comes out and as of now I think it might get released December, along with Gingerbread for sure.
