Why no dual core HTC phones?
Unless there's a second wave of announcements at MWC coming, so far i'm not very impressed with HTC's offerings; i just don't see how the Desire S as a major upgrade from the Desire. It's a bit glaring for me to not have a dual core in the lineup when Samsung and LG have been touting it since late last year.
What could be the reason? A "philosophical" choice that you really don't need a dual core phone? Technical problems with their dual core prototypes(both highly unlikely imho)
That Galaxy S2 is looking mighty good though; just hope i can afford it

I'm with you. Today's announcements were extremely disappointing. HTC sure did hype the event on their facebook. Really led to me believe we would see evo 2 type hardware. It confuses me that the company that brought us the EVO, a 4.3" slab of 1ghz processing-goodness brought us such crap today.

i like the way you think sir
But, unless they can roll it out real soon, from a sales perspective i don't see the logic of hanging back while Samsung and LG make a ton of money from their dual-cores while they're effectively sitting at the sidelines.
In all honesty, i think i'd be perfectly happy with a 1ghz single core phone; it's all gonna boil down to pricing. If the price diff is only around USD150, you may as well go dual-core imhoLast edited by badkuk; 02-16-2011 at 07:08 AM.

Ctia will probably bring a dual core evo 2 sprint exclusive.

Wouldn't a duel core processor really drain the battery faster?

I would rather have a single core phone that is efficient on battery, they need to worry more on a longer lasting battery then how many cores they can fit in a phone

How does the duel core processor use less power and yet is faster?

Maybe they are hoping Netflix will be a big deal. I too am upset that there are no dual core offerings. I am pretty sure I am getting a wifi xoom, so I'm wondering how much power I need in my phone. Maybe I'll get the t-bolt after-all. I just want assurance that their battery and "low memory" issues have been resolved.
HTC: Hacker/Rom friendly, but single core
Bionic: Not hacker/Rom friendly, but dual corePlease use the Thanks button below and to the right. - 02-16-2011, 08:08 PM #17

As I understand things, when running a single core very fast, the battery drains MUCH faster. Many tasks can be done equally quickly by splitting processing between two cores loafing along as by a single core running fast. But for two cores to loaf along uses much less battery than the single core at high speed. Of course your OS has to be set up to take advantage for this to work.

I am also disappointed that Qualcomm did not showcase ANY phone with their dual core 8660 chip. It has to be coming at CTIA but why not mention anything at MWC? To their defense, there aren't really any dual core phones shipping in the US right now except for the atrix. They need to have those devices shipping shortly after CTIA or they will be left behind in this round of dual core phones.
