Stopping continual notification on samsung A?

I have just purchased a Samsung A previously Samsung 10.1 tab.
Also have Samsung Phone S5. Both had notifications for both messenger and emails. With this one I can change the tones but emails continually play tunes until I read them...most annoying. I KNOW i can turn sound off but need the Messenger for family...any help out there. I have tried going into each app setting but sound continues!

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Accessibility​ and see if there is an option for Notification Reminders. Turn it off, if present.
