galaxy A5 loses data connection often

Hello all. I have a problem with my Galaxy A5. I am using an unlocked version of the phone (A500F) on the US network AT&T. The phone is updated to Lollipop. However, recently I am often losing data connection. For example, I would use facebook messenger and it would often say "no internet connection" for about 15 seconds and then come back. Similar things with snapchat, whatsapp, etc.. even though I have full signal and all the bars are full. What could be the problem?? Thanks!

Welcome back! If you compare the LTE bands that your phone supports (Samsung Galaxy A5 | 4G, 13 MP, 5” HD Display | Midnight Black - Samsung UK) with the ones that AT&T uses (Cheat sheet: which 4G LTE bands do AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint use in the USA?), you'll notice that the only overlap is Band 5. AT&T's main band is 17, so even though it lists Band 5, that band won't necessarily be strong everywhere.

Hi. Thanks for the quick and helpful reply. I never knew about this detail. However, why did this only start happening now? I've been using it since August and only recently did it start dropping data connection so much. Even if only band 5 overlaps, it was at least always connected. Now it loses connection a lot and regains it.

It could be related to changes in the AT&T towers in your area. Give AT&T a call and see if they can shed any light on this.
