Wifi Hotspot turns on, then turns back off

Up until last night, my portable wifi hotspot worked really nicely, it did seem to turn off if I disconnected my laptop from it for a length of time, I assumed it was a power saving mode feature, but now it turns on for a couple of seconds, and turns right back off again... A reboot seems to fix it, but I've had to do that 3 times already.. grrr.. endless reboots are supposed to be a MS thing!

Also wish there was a shortcut available to turn on the portable hotspot... it's buried under 4 layers of menus
