Default Galaxy Gear as watch and storage device

Will the Galaxy Gear work as a watch when not in contact with a phone or tablet? Also, will I be able to download files onto it, either directly through Dropbox, or indirectly from a Dropbox on the associated phone? And if yes, then again, will I be able to access such files when not in contact with the phone or tablet? (say on an airplane). The main files I have in mind are simple lists of addresses, phone numbers, and such. Perhaps a spreadsheet.

From what I've seen there is no way to interact with the filesystem on the device or a cloud storage solution like Dropbox. This may change if a Dropbox app is offered later, but right now there's nothing even close to it in the Samsung App store for the Gear.

Yes it does still work as a watch when not connected.
