My new Samsung 2014 is sitting at my door right at this moment as I'm writing this. I can't wait to get my hands on it. I've been reading all sorts of reviews all day today. Almost all the reviewers said the same thing:

Pros: Gorgeous screen
Cons: Software lag

Have you found it to lag? What have you all experience with your tablet? Will installing Nova Launcher help? Is it consider a deal breaker? I have last year's Note 10.1 and I know the thing does lag but then again I didn't pay $500+ for it. If I did I would be slightly PO'ed.

Just wondering if you've experienced this "lag" that everyone talks about and what you've done to fix it. They all say there's a lot of Samsung Bloatware on here. What have you done? Disable it? I know you can't remove it.

Thanks-

There is an occasional lag that seems out of place. It's a very speedy device but sometimes some animations are *slightly* laggy. My guess is It's an issue with the software. I'm hoping it will be corrected with a software update (though it is Samsung so who knows.) It's not something I personally consider a deal breaker as it's not a huge issue and is not always present.

Honestly, I don't see what all the hype about lag is. I've been using it for about a month. I did change to a different launcher, Apex, mostly because I like it and it has some features stock TW does not. But as for lag, it was never an issue. there are a few easy tweaks to launch apps a nano second faster, but really I have not been bothered at all with any serious lag that bogs my day down an extra second here or there.

I'm more bothered by the complexity of so many interactive features that are poorly documented and poorly supported by Samsung.

But I keep plugging along figuring stuff out and this really is an amazing device that has such a plethora of features to enhance daily life and productivity.

Enjoy!

My old Note 10.1 has lag, but I never once, said, "This is unacceptable....I'm going to get rid of it and get an Ipad". I guess these reviewers (Cnet, PCmag, Techno Buffalo) are looking for the perfect tablet and they can't seem to find one. Sure the Ipad doesn't have the same lag, but I'm sure with Apple is, they keep everything simple. You have no options to do anything differently, thus it doesn't lag.

To be honest, I don't know if the day comes, where they will find a perfect tablet. Because everyone uses theirs for different reasons. If I didn't take a lot of notes, I'd get a Google Nexus 10 or something similar.

You get the nail on the head. There is no such thing as perfect. As for the ipad comparisons, ya, you are in a fairly restricted box, with little to no options to customize. I think you will be very Happy with your new Note

I admit that Touchwiz onmy S4 is very lag and stuttering. I had to use Nova. As far as note 10.1 2014 goes, I see no stuttering. I tried nova anded up uninstalling it. I am very happy with Touchwiz on note 10.1 2014.

Do you have the WiFi only model with the Exynos or the LTE model with the Snapdragon? I have the Exynos and it has some pretty significant lag. Such a disappointment. I was going to return it, but I discovered that I fell within Amazon's extended return period and I have until January 31st to return it. I'm trying to hold out to see if Sammy pushes another "stability" update.

I have WiFi only model with Exynos. I have mine since late October. The only thing I have done is enabling the developer mode and then turn off all three animations stuff. Once I did that, Touchwiz is very snappy. I did see one time where the table was very lag. Clear all memory didn't help. But after I reboot the tablet and it is snappy again. I am not sure what happened? but that was just one time lag since I have the Note. I am still pretty happy with performance. I am actually enjoying the GN 10.1 2014 more then the iPad Air that I still have. I am not trying to promote one over the other. I am Apple guy. I like any device that will benefit me.

I bought one for my mother for Christmas. Spent a few hours setting it all up with a new Google account I created for her to use with it, installed a bunch of apps and configured them, configured Wifi, disabled some junk apps and notifications, etc. I then "trained" her for hours on it Christmas day since it's her very first tablet, let alone "touch based" device. In that time using I didn't experience any lag at all. Before purchasing I'd read about the lag but almost everything I'd read said it was resolved in an update that came out shortly after the tablet's release. I checked for updates on it and it says it's up to date.

Off topic but - gotta say, it was pretty cool and she seems to love it. She likes Skyping a lot with our family in Germany and within seconds of opening Skype to show her differences in the mobile app version we got a call from my cousin in Germany. The quality was great! Also nice that you can drag your selfview to somewhere else on the screen if it's in the way. We Skyped with 4 different relatives in Germany with no hiccups.

Rev.

That's so cool. just curious, how old is your mom? I remember training my then 80 year old dad on using a PC. (about 10 years ago, he passed a few years ago) But he took pretty well to it and really enjoyed it. Maybe too much hehe, cuz now and then he would call me to fix it when it kept getting adware etc. Came to find out as I was cleaning his files, he discovered porn. I was somewhere between embarassed and amused. :-D

Can you guys tell me where I can turn off the "Animation Stuff"? I've disabled all the Motion Control (Motion/Palm Motion). Not sure if that's what you meant.

You have to get into Developer options to do that. To enable that, go to settings, about device, and tap on build number 7 times
