Technically this tablet is still current generation because Samsung has yet to announce a successor to it. To answer your question: it depends, for example, Samsung is updating the note 2 and the s4 to lollipop, however they have never said that they would update any of their tablets to lollipop. All we can do is wait and see.

IF Samsung decides to NOT upgrade "older" tables, one can probably bet there will be a lot of rooting and flashing new roms done....
