AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
Has anyone running stock 4.04 on this thing been successful at getting it to connect to the NetGear PTV3000? This and the GSIII are the first to be "pre-certified" to support Miracast, and the PTV3000 is the first "pre-certified" Miracast adapter. I've had suscess with the GSIII connecting and displaying properly, but the Note times out during connection.

Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
Phil was discussing this a few days ago and the netgear adapter isn't working properly. Netgear has acknowledged the issue and is supposed to be correcting it with a future software update.

Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
I just find it odd that I can get the GSIII to work, but not the Note. Only thing I could think of is that the GSIII is on 4.1, while the Note is still 4.04.....didn't realize it was with the adapter. Any estimate provided on this "future software update"?

Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
May I know your GS|||'s version and how to get the display properly? My GS||| is a Samsung's 4 Core version(International version). And I get the newest offical 4.1 firmware in it. I can get PTV3000 connect to GS||| sucess but can not get any display at all.
Can you show us what you have done between GSIII and PTV3000? Thanks very much!! - 11-14-2012, 12:05 PM #5
Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
Like most companies their best estimate is, "Future".

Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
I'm running Sprint GSIII w/ 4.1 and follow these steps:
1) Hook up the PTV3000 like normal (power, HDMI)
2) When it's booted up and displays ready to connect, I push the little button on the side and get the PTV3000 into Miracast mode
3) Launch "Allshare Cast" from the GSIII, click on and let it scan. It should display some "random" Netgear PTV3000 number
4) Click "Connect"; a pop-up window should open saying "Connecting", and once done you should be connected.
.....and that's it. Whatever you do on the phone will display on your TV exactly as does in the palm of your hand. Sometimes I have to toggle the button on the side of the PTV3000 and restart the Allshare Cast app to get it to connect, but nothing else is necessary. - 11-24-2012, 08:02 AM #7Thanked by:

Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
Good find on the firmware, but alas, not only did it NOT fix the Note 10.1 issue, it KILLED my GSIII connectability.......I guess it's back to the original firmware and a long wait for the official update.

Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
Only kind of works - using GS3, displays a video from the Play Store, but with no sound, and at fairly low quality. Does not display video from Facebook, though it is trying. Great effort though, much better than earlier versions which blatantly did not work.

Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
Has anyone had any luck connecting their note 10.1 (or S3) to the netgear ptv3000? I upgraded the firmware to 2.2.2, the galaxy devices recognize the netgear, attempts to connect then closes. Anyone else have better luck?

Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
With the "as shipped" ptv3000 firmware (v 1.0.13,1.0.3, or something similar) I was able to get my Sprint GSIII to work fine, but not the Note 10.1. I updated to the "experimental" 2.1.1 firmware mentioned above, it killed being able to connect to the GSIII also. I have tried to go through Netgear support to obtain the original or updated firmware, however the response was, in a nut shell, "no".
....so where did you get the 2.2.2 software? - 01-16-2013, 10:41 PM #12

Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
Just saw this review on amazon when searching for the device.
So apparently there is a beta firmware 2.2.6Works with Nexus 4 and Win 8!, January 20, 2013
Updated to the new beta firmware v2.2.6 and my Nexus 4 phone and WiDi windows 8 laptop work flawlessly.

No more HDMI cables!!! Great deal for a product I am going to use all the time.
I think I might sell my old PTV 2000 since it is selling at a much higher rate and I don't really use it, and then buy the PTV 3000 and see what happens! - 01-23-2013, 05:27 PM #15
Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
I'm thinking about just moving past the netgear and trying the samsung allshare cast hub.

Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
So I sold my Netgear PTV 2000 on Amazon for $42 after all the fee's were said and done. And bought a "like new" PTV3000 for $48!!
So I upgraded my Netgear PTV for just $6
I'll try out the beta firmware when I get it sometime next week and report back here. - 02-21-2013, 10:39 AM #17
Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
Don't get the Allshare Cast hub! You're better off waiting for them to update the firmware on the device, but it's likely that the update needs to happen on your phone first. Miracast will be natively supported on devices with Android 4.2.1. The Note 2 and S3 are on 4.1.2, meaning right now they only support Miracast through their proprietary service called Allshare Cast, but should support full miracast once they have their Android version upgraded.
I have the Samsung Allshare Cast Dongle, and it's a POS for video streaming. It disconnects, stutters, and most of the time, the video and audio are out of sync. Additionally, the Allshare Cast hub, despite being equipped with all the proper hardware to act as an Intel WiDi receiver, only works with Allshare Cast devices from Samsung. I just bought a brand new Samsung Series 7 Chronos laptop with WiDi and it won't connect to the Allshare Cast dongle. Factor in the $99 price, and it's just not worth it.Thanked by: - 02-22-2013, 04:19 PM

Re: AllShare Cast & NetGear PTV3000
The latest PTV3000 Firmware 2.2.9 seems to have everything working properly, save a bit of lag and an occassional dropped connection. I've got it all working with Intel WiDi, GSIII, and the Note 10.1.
Other than working with all three devices now, the best part is that you no longer have to push that little button to switch WiDi/Miracast modes....they are both active at all times now. - 04-12-2013, 09:34 AM #19
