I'm rather new to Android. I purchased this tablet a month ago and learning more about Android every day. I was ecstatic to get the Jellybean update, and after watching Samsung's teaser premium upgrade video, I saw it has the capability to send text messages. Now, here's the stupid question: Do I need an Android phone in order to use the Google Voice texting feature on the tablet? I have a Blackberry 9810, and I'm probably going for the Galaxy S3 next.

You can sign up for Google Voice and pick one of tbe available numbers for your area, but you do not have to tie it to any other number at that time. The Google Voice app allows you to text just as you would on a phone, but it displays your Google Voice number as the sent from number.

I've been using Google Voice as my work cell number for close to 2 years now.
