GN 10.1 pros and cons
My parents are considering buying a tablet, and I'm trying to help them make an informed decision. I own a Nexus 10 and am very happy with that, but I think my parents could really benefit from the S Pen on the GN 10.1. From the little research I've done, it seems to me that the biggest features for the GN 10.1 are the S Pen and the ability to have multiple "windows" displayed at the same time. What are some of the pros and cons you've found with your GN? What are some things you can do with an S Pen that you couldn't do with a regular stylus (on a Nexus or iPad)? I've not used a stylus at all with my tablet, so I have no idea what you can do with that - can you take hand-written notes like you can with an S Pen?
Thanks! - 03-14-2013, 09:30 AM #2
Re: GN 10.1 pros and cons
PRO:
IMHO it is clear that the SGN10.1 stands out among all ~10" tablets due to: multiple windows, S-Pen, front speakers and Quad Core processor; plus the N8000 model is an actual "phone" too.
CON:
It has been said that the screen resolution is less than an iPad, but I found the resolution more than adequit. The difference is negligible IMHO.
The only issue I have had with it is the small screen size. Of course this is common to all ~10" tablets, so that is a PRO/CON for them all. What you gain is lighter weight and long battery life by sacraficing screen size. I don't know how old your parents are, but I would have them use your current tablet to see if this is an issue for them. Personally the screen size is what has me looking at other larger touch screen products like the Dell XPS 12, Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 and other ultrabooks in that size catagory with removable screens (IE: larger tablet). Windows 8 looks interesting too, but I have no experience with it yet. These larger ultrabook W8 products are small full featured keyboard optional computers that can do it all; albeit at a much higher price (~double the price).
Make sure your parents really want/need a 10" tablet or if they would be happier with a larger screen. If a 10" floats their boat, than the SGN10.1 is the one IMHO. - 03-14-2013, 09:41 AM

Re: GN 10.1 pros and cons
Yeah, I'd like to show them my tablet, but they live about 8 hours away and I won't be seeing them again until the end of May. They're looking to make a purchase within the next week or two.
Regarding the pros you listed, the only one that really stands out compared to the Nexus is the S-Pen. But I don't know much about it - I know there's more you can do with it than a "standard" stylus, but what exactly are those differences? - 03-14-2013, 09:59 AM #4
