I played with both in the store and they seemed on par performance wise. Problem is the GN 8.0 is only 16GB in the US so I had to pass on it. BTW, why does the GN 8.0 get placed up in the SMARTphone section and all other tablets are relegated to the bottom of the page :\

Just curious here but it was my understanding that the Note 10.1 was the "Flagship" model of Samsung and I would then extropolate it was "The Best" they made...memory always nonwithstanding because you can always add and its not fair IMHO to say One is better than another simply because it has say 32GB to a 16GB etc. et al.

But I thought the Note 10.1 was the best and had absolutely top end components?

I bought a Note 10.1 . Really liked it but a few things really bothered me. I am mainly an iPad user but I really like active digitizers. The Note series is just great that way. I ended up taking the Note 10.1 back and buying a Note 8.0. Both are very nice but I find the Note 8.0 better. The writing is great, the screen resolution is perfect and it just feels to be made better. It is newer of course so I suspect Samsung will update the 10.1 to match it. That is why you can get the 10.1 at a heavy discount. The 30 pin connector is a thing of the past, having the back, option and home buttons on the screen is not as nice in my opinion. The Note 8.0 feels more responsive.

Not an obvious choice but for me it was a bit easier as I had an iPad 4 which took care of the size issue.

I guess I would recommend the 8 or if you really need a bigger screen wait for an updated 10.1.

Considering the 10.1 and the 8.0 have the same hardware inside the only reason for snappier response would have to be the smaller screen and possibly some software tweaks in the OS. The resolutions are the same as well.

The next note tablet should be much better as apparently, wacom has finally introduced 1080p digitizers in their products, so now it is to see if Samsung will include one on the note 10.

Lisa Gade of Mobile Tech Review says that the 8.0 performance is even better than the 10.1. It's benchmark scores are amazing. But, our Note 10.1s are still the best performing full sized tablets, IMO. Since I have the 10.1 and the 2, I think I have my own bases covered.

i THINK you hit the nail right on the head there... Having a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet and Note 2 "phablet" is about as awesome as a combination that you can have..Totally awesome. Enviable.

I'm really wanting a Note 2 right now and I can't afford it, I'm hoping will save up and the 3 will come out and the Note 3 will be the Be All End All so I'll be so happy lol. Maybe Someday.

The 8.0 has the 1.6 Ghz and the 10.1 has a 1.4. So the performance will be a little Faster. They said the Quadrant test on the 10.1 was 5349 but I got 6068 . But the 8"is faster and Smaller , but I Still like the 10" for the bigger screen and larger 7000 Ma battery. If I was looking for something Smaller in size it would be the noteII for me.

I tested both, the 10.1 was faster. Could be that performance is much more than just processor power
