Why would you ROOT a tablet

Hi all, Just want to know what advantages there are to rooting the new Samsung 10.1 Note tablet. I don't really understand why I would risk that process? Clarification or explanation for Dummies would be appreciated.

when i bought my first Android device i didnt root it for 9 months. I thought the same like you then one day i root it now i cannot have a device without root.
when i bought my Samsung Nexus10 and nexus 4 I rooted it the very first day.

but before you even root you need to know why you want to root? first step is to check if you have come across any app which needed root to function?

I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 for one reason only. So that I can access my 1TB external HDD. Now when I back up content or transfer movies and such I don't need my laptop anymore. (which I rarely use anyway)

Works great for me.
