Re: [GUIDE] How to ROOT and UNROOT The Sprint Note2
PC Trick: The key methods mentioned by SkunkApe60 are often a pain so I recommend those with a PC to do something else:
1) Install the Android SDK and add it to your path. It's been written up very well here amongst many other locations:
2) Turn on Developer Options and USB Debugging on your phone.
Now instead of the key methods you can type two commands to get to download and recovery:
So when I root to make the one clicks I do the following steps:Code:adb reboot download adb reboot recovery
1) Download TWRP in an Odin package here:
(I link here so that you can thank the developer supporting this for the GN2 while you're there.)
2) Reboot to Download (Odin) mode using the ADB command above.
3) Load the TWRP Odin package in the PDA slot and flash. Reboot to system.
Note: In only one case have I seen it not hold TWRP and that was after the LK8 test OTA.
Every other case recovery has held and you can let it boot normally.
4) Download this file:
...and place it on your internal memory or SD card.
5) Reboot to recovery using the ADB command above.
6) Flash subusybox.zip and reboot to System.
Congrats! You're now rooted using the same method as the one clicks!Last edited by garwynn; 01-11-2013 at 10:26 AM.

Re: [SPRINT] [GUIDE] How to ROOT and UNROOT The Sprint Note2
I personally just downloaded the root toolkit, which works for every carrier, and went from there...
And did all the work for me
Didn't really have to mess with anything but put a file in Odin when it told me to.

Re: [SPRINT] [GUIDE] How to ROOT and UNROOT The Sprint Note2
I really don't agree with one clicks or auto rooting. If people can't follow these instructions and flash one file in odin and one file in recovery, perhaps they shouldn't be rooted. I truly feel that by doing things yourself you learn more and in the long run get more enjoyment out of your tinkering.

Re: [SPRINT] [GUIDE] How to ROOT and UNROOT The Sprint Note2
I guess another way to put it is...
One clicks or other auto rooting techniques is fine but we/you can't always know or anticipate the outcome due to limited control of the process.
Manual methods of rooting you have much more control over what is happening. In the end many find it more rewarding.

Re: [SPRINT] [GUIDE] How to ROOT and UNROOT The Sprint Note2
You said it better than I. I just find doing things myself more satisfying. I've learned allot in the past year and and a half and am still learning. I've found playing with these phones a cheap and interesting hobby. The deeper into the rabbit hole I go the more satisfying it is.
I wish I had more time for this but working full time and being a single father takes most of my time. I'm currently trying to get my favorite gs3 theme working on the gn2. Once I get this figured out and working, I will try my own theme. Who knows what's after that.

Re: [SPRINT] [GUIDE] How to ROOT and UNROOT The Sprint Note2
Thanks for the posts. It's so helpful for those who for the first time try to root their GN2 (like me).
If possbile, can you guys please post 'How to root ATT/ T-Mobile GN2'?
I know that's dangerous to flash wrong files on wrong mobile devices.
Thank you. - 01-17-2013, 07:46 PM

Re: [SPRINT] [GUIDE] How to ROOT and UNROOT The Sprint Note2
Will these methods work with the new MA7 update? I'm stock rooted so I was just going to revert back to unroot update then root back.
Is this do able? Will anything be lost? - 02-13-2013, 10:05 PM

Re: [SPRINT] [GUIDE] How to ROOT and UNROOT The Sprint Note2
This method doesn't flash a Rom tar. So it can be used regardless of android version. So yes it will work on ma7. I have rooted many times with this method and have yet to lose data. The return to stock should also work without losing data.
I can guarantee the root won't lose data but can't promise that the return to stock won't. However the one time I did it, I didn't lose anything.

Re: [SPRINT] [GUIDE] How to ROOT and UNROOT The Sprint Note2
Yes. Unrooted using the toolkit. Then my phone already downloaded the update. So I installed within the phone. Then rooted again.

Re: [SPRINT] [GUIDE] How to ROOT and UNROOT The Sprint Note2
I if followed this guide, what would it do to TWRP recovery? Because you're flashing the stock rom over it, wouldn't the stock rom overwrite TWRP?
P.S. Sorry I am a n00b. Still very new to this.
P.P.S. What would doing this do to my contacts and apps?Last edited by Oraclize; 03-15-2013 at 09:38 PM.
