Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
Hi guys, just wondering if the stock Google voice-to-text works via Bluetooth so I can text while driving? Has anyone tried it, and if so, can tell me how to set it up?
Here's what I hope to accomplish in my car:
1.) Listen to music by connecting it to my car (aux or BT if my car has BT built in) AND SIMULTANEOUSLY ...
2.) Replying to an incoming text message by pressing a button on my BT device
Is this possible?Last edited by Boba7523; 12-12-2012 at 04:31 PM.

Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
I haven't tried since probably gingerbread, so this may be useless to you. However, back then I could not find a way to get it to work with the STOCK voice search/voice to text. Of course, that was on a Moto and I think they had their own or verizons over riding the stock one maybe? I'm not sure, it's been awhile.
Anyway, the work around I found was to use Vlingo. It was kind of a pain, but for long weekend drives or business trips in the car it worked okay once it was set up right. I do remember having to mess with the Vlingo settings to get it to work right. Might be an option if you they haven't added bluetooth voice to text in the last 2 versions of Android. - 12-10-2012, 09:56 PM #3
Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
I am considering a switch to a Note2 and this is a big deal for me too. I had a rep in a store demo S-voice for me and I see that you can voice text and have a new text read to you via S-Voice. When I had my GS3 there were issues with any of the voice recognition software going trough my BT headset. For those that have used an iPhone and Siri you will know what I mean. It works well and I am looking for a similar experience without the brain damage of trying to set up a 3rd party app.
If anyone has experience using their BT headset please chime in.Samsung Galaxy S4 - AT&T

Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
Does anyone have s-voice experience using Bluetooth? Does s-voice or google voice recognition use the Bluetooth mic or the phone's internal mic?

Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
I drive a manual transmission and can absolutely not hold my phone while driving, so bluetooth is my only way when on the road. Plus, my truck has little to no insulation (cheap of cheap). However, I have had little to no issues with my phone recognizing my voice using BT in both text/email or s-voice. In the instances when there are issues, I would say they are no more common than issues you would have talking into your phone in a quiet room.

Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
I turned on my Bluetooth, activated Svoice, shut my truck door leaving my phone inside the truck, walked 10 feet from my truck and, in a normal speaking voice said "this is a test". She replied "I hope I did well". Yes you did. So, unless she heard my normal speaking voice from 10 feet away behind a closed vehicle door, yes it uses the Bluetooth microphone.

Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
It works with SVoice but not when I try to reply to a text message with voice by pressing the microphone.I was under the impression that this a known glitch in both the S3 and the Note 2. If I turn off my bt, I can press the microphone in the messaging app and reply with my voice.

Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
KahneFan thank you for testing that.
It sounds like responding might be an issue still. I wonder if the home button double tap would activate the BT mic? I am gong to have to go to a VZ store and play with it. I really want to switch to this phone.Samsung Galaxy S4 - AT&T

Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
Thanks KahneFan, good to know BT works in the truck.
Here's what I (along with many I would presume) hope to accomplish:
1.) Listen to music on my Note 2 by connecting it to my car (aux or BT doesn't matter) AND SIMULTANEOUSLY ...
2.) Replying to an incoming text message by pressing a button on the BT, and this would NOT completely stop the music from playing.
Has anyone tested? - 12-12-2012, 09:41 PM #11
Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
So, you get the message, you pull down your task bar, you click the message to check the message, but you don't want to just push the microphone button on the keyboard for voice input? Not trying to be a smart-A, honestly trying to understand what you are wanting to test. I am more than happy to test anything I can for you, just tell me step by step what you would like to attempt and I will do it.

Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
I have played around with the device and I am happy to report that I could carry on a text conversation using S-voice. It was able to read my new text and allow me to respond to the text. There were times I had to tap the mic button, but no biggie! All went through my BT headset with no issues. Thanks again KahneFan for testing for me. I appreciate it.

Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
Can you test 2 things?
1.) Can S-Voice speak out loud the text message?
2.) Responding to a text message via S-Voice or something. Basically any method other than having to unlock the phone, go into Messages app, and pressing on the Mic button.
Also ... Do you use your Note 2 as an mp3 player for your car? If so...
I'd like you to help me test playing a song on your Note 2 while it's connected to your car speakers via auxiliary cable or bluetooth if your car has one. If you don't use your Note 2 as an in-car mp3 player, it's ok too. Then test #2 from above. I just want to know what would happen to the song that's currently playing if a text message was received and I wanted to respond to it...
Thanks! - 12-13-2012, 08:37 AM #15
Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
I received a text, held down the button on my BT headset until s-voice beeped, said "read my new text". S-voice read the text and an icon popped on screen to reply. I tapped icon and replied over the BT headset. Worked very similar to Siri. Only exception is that you have to tap the reply icon. At least that's what I found in my short experiment.
I just got the n2 last night and have not put on any music so I can't test the other one yet. Maybe this weekend I will have time to mess with it. I am a road warrior sitting in a hotel without my music with me.

Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
I may not know the correct question to ask SV because I have not figured out how to get her to read a text aloud to me yet. However, I just turned on "Driving Mode" and sent my self a test and she said "New text message from voice mail (how she sees my own number), the message says test". So, I'm guessing messages will be read aloud if you just turn on driving mode.
Using SV you can tell her to "Text (insert contact name) (insert text body)" and she will send the message for you.
Here's a video I made to hopefully help?

Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
Ok, I have music on my phone, connect it to the BT in the car and my BT headset. Music plays through the stereo speakers in the car. I activate S-voice and receive the prompts through my headset. When I do this the music pauses. When complete the music resumes. I then hold down the button on my BT headset to activate S-Voice. Again, music pauses and I am prompted. I ask her to send a text to my wife, which is completed without issues. Once done the music resumes.
This is a short test sitting in my driveway, but it seems to work. I will get a better sense of it tomorrow when I am on the road for 4 hours. If I find something different I will report back again.Samsung Galaxy S4 - AT&T

Re: Texting with Bluetooth via Voice-to-Text?
Hi guys, just wondering, this works for bluetooth headset. How do we activate S-Voice if we're not using BT headset? Would we have to manually unlock out phone and hold the S-voice activation button? There's no one button phone shortcut?
