How to transfer subtitles into movie on phone

I'm trying to watch a foreign film that I downloaded on my phone with the subtitles. The subtitles were downloaded as a separate file. When watching the movies on the VLC player on my pc, all I have to to do click on subtitle track and open file. On the note 2 while watching the movie, I click settings->subtitles on-> then a box appears saying I have no subtitles, there isn't an option to "add subtitles" Can any one help me here, thanks

Nevermind, I solved it, for those you may have this issue later. On your pc, place both files 2gether in a folder. If the subtitle file isn't named just like the movie file, then rename it word for word. After that transfer it to your phone and viola!
