I got a Otter Box Defender case today for my Galaxy Note 2 but the screen does not lay down on the phone screen so I want to take the case off and return it. How do I get the case off I haven't seen any info on getting the thing off ?

Peel the silicone off, use your nails to pop the tabs around the hard plastic. Should pop apart.

Just an FYI - The built in screen protector on the defenders never truly does lay completely flat on the phone screen. I've noticed that there's always a tiny fraction of a mm of space between the protector and the screen. I've seen that on the defender for the iPhone line, BlackBerry line, as well as the Galaxy line. Most folks that I know simply rip out the builtin screen protector and use their own.

I read that taking the screen out weakens the side of the case. It is kind of expensive of a case to gut it. I have taken the built in screen out to see how that works out for me.

I don't know for something as big as the Note 2 but on the BB device we use for work there was no loss of anything when we removed the builtin screen protector. It improved the useability of the case immensely.

I removed the screen protector from my iPhone case before this and it was the first thing I did when I got this case. I dropped my iPhone a couple times with no adverse affect. I haven't dropped this one yet though. I replace the built in protector with a Zagg or Spigen SPG. I'm using the SPG now, but it seems like it likes to peel up a little around the corners. I'm probably going back to Zagg next time I need to replace it.
