The volume button only lowers my Ringer unless I'm Vibrate. How do I have all of them lower? I'm used to a check mark box allowing this but I don't see it.

I use an app called . It lets me set and lock the various volumes. I started using it because I was accidentally turning down/off my ringer. It has sliders for Music and Media, in-call volume, ringer, notifications (can be locked to ringer volume), alarms, and system alerts. Each can be set separately and individually locked (or left unlocked). It sits in the notification area so a single tap gives you quick access to all settings. The free version has a tiny ad that's really easy to ignore.
