Default Do you have location services switched on?

Mine are turned off Only because I was worried that by having them turned on my battery would drain a lot quicker! Am I wrong and should I have them turned on, as obviously the weather doesn't update for me

I have them all on so that everything works as intended. I am getting a full day on battery with moderate use.

I've never used location services on any of my Androids unless I am traveling. I can get 6-7 hours of screen time with CPU Power Saver on and haptic feedback disabled (that's how I run my phone since a 1.1GHz quad core is way more than enough to run day to day tasks)

I turn on what I am using and turn the rest off to save battery life. Getting 2-3 days on a charge.

I have mine turned on all the time for security purposes. My security app has some great features to find my phone if its lost so I need to have location services enabled. I get good battery life with moderate usage, I wouldn't worry about my battery while having location services turned on unless you're on your phone ALL day and then it wouldn't matter what you had turned off or on, your battery would take a hit anyway

I have mine on and get 16 hours of heavy use. I don't understand people's fascinating with getting 2 or 3 days of battery life. Not sure I'll ever believe that of any smartphone unless data is off and phone is rarely being used. I find it strange that people even say that, and are not putting their phone on the charger every night when they are sleeping. I don't get it, but that's just me I guess.

There are individuals whom have rooted their phones and obviouslly are getting incredible battery performance. These are also individuals who spend a great deal of time assisting others on this forum. Casting doubt on what they have to say is out of line.
The other day with light to moderate use I had nailed 15.8. Hrs with 53% remaining. Prior to the 4.1.2 update my best was 16hrs uptime with 63% remaining. Im am 100% stock, and have 2 weather apps and 1game (Quento)
Many of the individuals who are quoting 1 day plus batt times are rooted and gleaned their device for optimum efficiency.

Having a opinion respectfully is not out of line. This is not Nazi Germany. Casting doubt as you put it is out of line? Says who, you? Ok. Wow, very defensive. In my opinion I was not out of line. It's my opinion no matter what you say.

Well...back on topic.. im not sure location services is the same as having an active gps connection. Location services has to do with taking pictures that have the location info within the photo or doing a google search for a business in your area. Because location services are on these phones will use cell phone tower triangulation to find your location. Its kind of like how gps works in that it uses signals from multiple towers to gauge the distance to you. Using a formula and map it gains an appr. location. Yes it uses a little more power but ONLY when you use these services. Its not an all the time thing. Hope this helps.

I leave it VZW and Google Location Services on and get about 6+ hours of screen time with over an hour of talk time. I usually still have 35% battery left at bed time.

To be honest, in the old version of Android with gps on would drain the battery for no reason. And now ever since, Gingerbread, leaving the gps switch on will not drain the battery. It only drain the battery when an app called for it. It only on for 10 sec and it disappeared to stand by mode. It depends on the apps you use. If you are using Traffic card on Google now and that will have impact on the battery. But if you keep the traffic card off, then it have minimal impact on the battery that is so unnoticeable. I leave my gps on because of Mobile Security which it a phone locator. Had a bad experience with losing my previous phone. And Mobile Security only do the location check every 90 min and that only took 5 sec to check the gps.

If you have an app that using the gps far than what it is intended for, then You should stop using that app and remove it.

I compared my battery with gps on and gps off. Both of them have unnoticeable impact on battery. I get two days of battery with moderate use with gps on and off. Basically ever since Gingerbread improve the use of gps. I have HTC phone with gingerbread and leaving the gps on have barely any impact on the battery.

Again it is really depends on the phone, if the phone have lousy gps quality and it require a longer time to check the gps. Then it the phone that came with that gps. I suggest you get a different phone. So far, HTC MyTouch 4G, Samsung Galaxy S 3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 have no problem with the gps.

Again it depends on the phone and how heavy that app is calling the gps.

I always follow the philosophy of only turning on what I use/need, so only Google location services are turned on (for weather and general Google Maps location info). Otherwise, I never turn on VZW location services (really not needed unless you use certain Verizon apps that use it, Google location typically does the job anyway) and only GPS as needed (ex. for navigation). That way I never have to worry about GPS turning itself on and using battery (some apps can do that depending on their settings).

Thanks so much for all the replies and I have now turned all three on so my weather updates now but living in the wet muddy grey sky UK maybe that wasn't the thing to do

I know its not android but when I used to have blackberrys I could easily go two days of constant texting, facebook, email etc. I never carried my charger with me and never worried about it dying on me unexpectedly.

I could never do that with any of my android devices until my photon q after I rooted it and messed around with it. Now its got great life.
