How bad are the speakers, really?

I just read a review that noted the speakers were essentially terrible. Can any owners confirm?

Yep the external speaker is really bad. Much much worse than HTC one.

But the speakers on the HTC One are incredibly good (for a phone). I would say the speakers are average but quite loud.

Supposedly worse than an S4 but not by THAT much that it would be a deal breaker. Definitely upsetting to me though. Why would they skimp here? They should've kept it on the back if moving it to the bottom would hurt performance.

Worse is, that for some reason Bluetooth audio can be quite soft too. I'm hardly able to hear anything at all when in car with my Garmin. I also suspect that there is a bug with the hands-free activation, because sometimes it seems like the BT icon in the Call is selected, but audio is still coming from the phone's own speaker. I bought Jabra Cruise 2 yesterday, but haven't had chance to test it.

With wired headphones? Dunno, don't want to tangle with those anymore. With BT headphones, no problems thus far.
