    Default Message App Lag

    Hi all,

Got my note 3 last week, I transferred all my texts across from my iPhone using the Easy Sync Tool,

I have thousands of messages, going back to 2010 which I wanted to keep. however I think its making the whole app slow and laggy, if I open a thread, or go back to the main messages screen, or a send a message there is at least a 5 second lag between each command.

Im a bit surprised considering the specifications, and that I didn't have any lag at all with the iPhone with messages. Can the messages App not handle this many messages?

    Thanks
    Matt

Just curious...why would you want to save thousands of messages that are 3 years old?

Try a 3rd party messenger from the play store and see if it can handle it.

To be honest, im not 100% sure myself, I just like to keep things like that, in case you ever want to refer back to old friends messages, or family. I suppose its sentimental.

I read an article last year about a women that had kept all her texts for something like 10 or 15 years, and she went back and could refer to loads of things that had happened through her life. Since then made me think actually id quite like to keep them

I understand that not everyone will keep messages, but I think a good deal of people do keep old messages, so the fact there is a lag when there really shouldn't be is a bit frustrating. Simple thing for todays technology I would think .

@Matt I like to save texts & attachments (photos) also, so I use SMS Backup & Restore and Save MMS Apps. I think you'll find these to be great Apps and will help you archive those texts AND attachments (photos). (Then I move them to my desktop computer for safe keeping, but there's nothing stopping you from keeping them on your SD card, and being able to access them at will.

Thanks a lot ! I have downloaded that App and done a backup, 53 thousand messages it has backed up?!.

Will it let me backup / restore certain conversations? so if I want to backup and delete just the oldest ones then want to just restore those ones at a later date, will it let me do that?

    Thanks

I haven't messed with the App that much, but I don't see why you can't "organize" the 53k of messages that you have by restoring some by date (or other criteria), then save them again. You can access these messages whenever you want by going to the App and clicking on "view". That shows the files, then you open a file and your messages are there. Hope it works out for you, and don't forget the other App to save your photos that were attached to text messages. It works beautifully.

It's safer to backup your texts onto a computer. You never know if your phone will crap out, etc. It only takes a few minutes.

I use a Google Voice number, so all my texts are backed up to my Google account. I set up Google Voice to forward my texts to my TMo number, so I can still get them and reply via the messaging app.

wow....53000....im feeling claustrophobic just thinking of having all that on my phone. i use setting up a new phone as a good time to tidy up and organize my info, back it up to computer, and delete what i dont need.

Most likely this is cause by how the data was imported. We have a few who switched from iPhone to Note 2s when they came out and brought with them ton of messages and lag. They decided to delete all the messages and the lag went away (go figure) however now they are back up to around 30k text messages in the inbox and the app runs smooth as butter still (on the Note 2). It has to be how the format is coming over from iOS or how the Note is handling that format.. not sure. But i know if you start with the device there is no lag even after 30k+ messages.

Many texts on a phone always cause lag in any phone I am using. Whether it was an old Nokia or new android phone.

Try seeing if Textra can handle it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...?id=com.textra.

Holy crap, lol. Like already stated, 3rd party messaging apps will run smoother. The Samsung messaging app ran slow on my S3 as well.

I really hope a third party picks up on that soon. It pains me each time I mistakenly open the stock messenger lol.

yeah I am hoping the gear will have some solid support by devs and 3rd parties... I think it will being the first of its kind, much like the Google Nexus phone (at least my fingers are crossed)

Why have people kept diaries for centuries? It's really cool to go back and see what you and friends were talking about or what plans you had or past flings or ex girlfriends ect. on this day in history 3-10 years ago, it brings back memories you completely forgot about. Never realized this until I Went through an old phone I got in high school (graduated 04) and instantly regretted ever deleting a single text. for the first time keeping a journal made sense to me. Anyway, I'm having the same issue (s4) hoping third party app solves the problem.
