UC Browser and Tethering Problem - 3 network (UK)

My first post so first of all thanks for a fantastic forum!

I'm having a strange problem using UC Browser on my N3 which is the SM-N9005 bought sim free here in the UK. I'm on the 3 network.
Every time I change the UA from 'mobile' to 'desktop' for all sites, 3 starts thinking I'm using my phone as a portable hotspot and blocks access to the internet on not only UC but on all other browsers I have (stock/chrome/boat). Only way out of this is to uninstall UC browser and to restart the phone before these browsers start working again. Anyone else facing similar issues?

I spoke to 3 customer support and all they advised was to restart the phone which didn't help. Also wrote to UC help and they suggested changing 'cloud accelaeration' option which doesn't help. They also recommend using the mobile version of websites but then what's the point of the big screen size of the N3? (anyway, I hate mobile sites in general).

Any ideas on how to fix this? or guess I'll have to do without UC which is a shame because I really like it.
