OK then. Who regularly clears cache on all their apps?

I have been advised this is de rigeur to offset issues I and others have come across; and that everyone does it!

Do any or all phone manufacturers, networks or stores advise this on purchase?

Is there a weakness in Android that requires this constant manual intervention?

Many have 100+ apps installed.
Do you really spend the time to go through every one?

Is there an app for this, like with Windows software?

I will let this thread run on its own.

Thanks. AKA - 'Disillusioned Again'.

I do it occasionally if I see the app not running the way it should. You can clear the entire system cache in recovery mode, or you can get apps like Clean Master which help kill off unnecessary tasks that run.
I'd do it every once in a while, but as long as the app works fine I don't see the need for it

Nope I sometimes clear the cache on Dolphin but only because it asks me and I've never had any problems. Android seems very good at handling stuff like that

Just clearing apps that don't behave is what I was thinking afterward

That's the second time 'Recovery Mode' has been mentioned to me in as many days, so I guess I should look up what that is. Thanks.

You can boot into it by holding volume up + home + power when the phone is off.
With the stock recovery, you can perform factory resets, clear system cache and a few other things.
If you install a custom recovery, you can do things like backing up the entire system or installing custom ROMs.

LOL, no need to clear cache in every app. Really, no need to do anything memory wise. If you want, you can use the built in task manager to kill all open apps and clear RAM out.

Clearing cache in recovery is something I do, because that clears out the system cache as well, but it isn't like I do it every day. Definitely after an update and about once a month or so but that is more to keep the device snappy.

I think how to access recovery mode should be posted somewhere.

I never knew.

I do now but haven't tried it.

I think generally you're right and it's not usually needed.

Then if you are a heavy user and get app errors occasionally, or more often, it's good to know how to do some house cleaning the easy way.

HOWEVER, just a mild note of caution ---

I have just tried recovery mode and cleared some cache.
Regular users of this mode will scoff, but it is easy enough to make a wrong selection and do a factory reset.

You are just presented with very small script, so have eyewear if you need them.

There are several choices in a vertical row, relating to updating, resetting, clearing, and rebooting. Cache clearing is 2nd from last I think, with factory reset the one before.

I eventually read on the screen that you select with the power button after scrolling with the volume buttons.

I got the cache clearing right then selected reboot. The Android avatar had 'error' underneath as this screen was closing. The phone went back to off so I restarted normally. All seems OK.

Still I will only do it rarely.

Experts I'm sure use it as a gateway to another land.

Do it without distraction and be careful.

I guess worst case you will have a Kies backup if you accidentally reset.

That's all I got. I'm absolved if you get it wrong.

Have a backup in case.

Just use Clean Master to clear and cache and junk files if you need to

Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk

Yes I'll have a look at Clean Master. My N3 is charging. Does Clean Master have cache? Aha!

@SebasCvdB

Yes, I didn't know I could clear Cached Data in Storage, which would be better. Currently it says my 'security policy restricts clearing of this apps cache'. I couldn't see what to change in security. I will look more when its charged tomorrow.
