Why is there an option to turn off multi window?

If you just don't use it, you don't know it's there.

Does it use extra resources being on even when not actually using it? Is that why you can disable it?

I use multi Window, but I've usually got it checked off to keep that little tab hidden. Gets annoying pressing it by mistake during a game or while using my pen to draw

Yup, the main reason is to keep the tab from appearing by long-pressing the back button. It does, however, use resources since it's waiting for a trigger (the long-press); if you disable it, that trigger is off and so is the monitoring for it. It's minimal, but it is a running process consuming resources.

I don't inadvertently long press the back button so the tab never gets in the way.

I have never really used it, only for testing, so I suppose I should keep it off just in case there are some benefits.
