Hi
I picked up my SM-N9005 last night and it is my first ever android. (i said hi in the intro threads for my story)

Basically wanting some recommendations on some apps.
i have done recommendations but hard to find it all in one spot. also there seems so many apps that all do the same job so how do you work out "the best version" if you know what i mean :)

Anyways the list of things i would like to get include apps for:

Best camera app
im wanting more tweeks and HDR etc aswell as improving the quality of pics over the stock app. people meantion Camera FV5 and Camera Zoom FX ..... whats the best?

Best battery app
Everyone seems to meantion Gsam .... is this the app to get???

antivirus ...
Not so much for virus scan but mainly to get features i had in icloud like find device and wipe etc and maybe some others im unaware of.
AVG vs Lookout (Telstra in australia have a link to lookout)

I used to watch NHL on pay TV here however i no longer have it for some years and wouldnt mind an app to watch games (is there free ones that show games maybe not necessarily live?)

Any other recommendations?
still learning what android has opened up for me so if there is an awesome must have techtool or something please let me know :D

Thanks everyone!!

If you frequent forums (like this one) I would recommend Tapatalk. Great for pooling all the forums that are compatible into one easy, convenient spot!

Thanks don't usually go to many forums other than go ogling info and readying them. I have both apps for Android central though. They work well.
I used to use tapa talk on my ipad but go frustrated as a lot of my forums weren't big supporters of it I think they may be now.
Anything else you would recommend?😊

Give Android Battery widget a try. It's handy and provides shortcuts to some handy settings.

If you register your device Samsung site offers a locate and ring phone service..There is also lookout which is free but for some reason I thought it slowed down my phone and screwed up downloads and file transfers..not sure tho. There are also apps like where's my droid that will locate phone. Of course the phone has to be on for this to work. Most of these services will lock or wipe device if stolen.

My first recommendation would be to avoid installing battery and antivirus apps. If you want a battery to monitor usage and see stats, that's fine, but I think they can be detrimental to battery life (ironical) if you use profiles, auto-modes and other features they may have.

For your phone location, Google has Android Device Manager. With it you can locate, ring and wipe your device. See it here: https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager

Antivirus are not needed. If you sideload apps, trust the sources or install an AV to be protected. Most users don't need an AV at all and can consume battery and resources.

Having said that, everyone has an opinion on those two things so I would advise you to try AV and battery apps and see if you really need them or not after all.

Here are some apps you can find useful. Given them a try:

- Launchers: Nova. You can also try Apex and Action Launcher.
- Music: Shuttle+. This is my go-to music payer. Paid version available.
- Chronus: Awesome widget with clock and weather. Free with some paid options. Totally recommended.
- The usual suspects: Twitter (Plume is my 3rd party client), Facebook, Flickr, Pocket, Feedly, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc.
- As others said above, if you are a regular user of some forums, Tapatalk is awesome.
- File Managers: File Commander in the free category. Inka File Manager for the paid ones.
- Endomondo or Runtastic if you practice any sport and want to keep track of your routines.
- Cloud storage: Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive.
- Notes: OneNote, Evernote, Keep.
- Microsoft Office Mobile is now totally free for Android since yesterday.

For cameras, I can't decide which one is the best because I always return to the stock app on my HTC One because it's really good. Try VSCO Cam, Camera FV-5, Holo Camera Plus and any others you want. For editing I use Pixlr Express but there are many good ones like Snapseed, Aviary, Googe Photos, etc.

I started testing a lot of apps then uninstalled the ones I didn't like or didn't wanted to use. If you don't do this you will end up with TONS of apps.

Now you have homework to do. Go and try some apps ;)

I don't really use camera apps much on my android phones. I can never find any I like. That's one thing I miss from my iPhone. I can't help you with antivirus apps either, as I don't use them. I'll give you a few of my favorite apps I do use though op, hopefully you find something you like. Some of these apps will be obvious to AC people, but maybe they will help someone.

Welcome to Android!

On your location app, someone already mentioned Android Device Manager. See also Cerberus, and AndroidLost. All three are great.

Good luck doing anything else but app testing for a while.

Cheers!

- Weather: AccuWeather is what I use. Full info and graphics lots of display options and very good radar.

- Launchers: I have 6-8 installed on my Note 3 at any given time and just bounce around any of them. Nova Prime is good and is a good value. Next 3D Shell Launcher is the best I have seen for features and ease of use. It seems to have the most widgets, customization, works great with email accounts, address books, calendars, ToDo List etc. and is still easy to use and navigate.

Next is constantly adding new features and functions, customer support is good. It is one of the most popular Launchers around. At $16.99 it is pricey but if you are a power user it has widgets and features other launchers simply do not have.
