My phone was rooted due to that fact that its was locked in a carrier, and then i wasnt able to upgrade to kitkat simce it was rooted. I read and tried flashing and i was successful and now i noticed when i try to click the software update it searches unlike before when it was rooted. Does this mean my phone is now unrooted?

If you flash stock firmware through Odin, you will definitely be unrooted.

z06mike is right, flashing stock firmware through ODIN will make you lose root access.
