Unlocking a Note 3

I'm looking to unlock my TMobile Note 3 so I can sell it once I get my Note 4. I own the Note 3 outright.

Does anyone have suggestions on the best method/service to unlock it?

I've never unlocked a phone before. Thanks.

Are you using it with T-Mobile service? If you've had it on your account for 40 days and is paid in full, TMO will unlock it.

Currently, yes. Although I may switch to AT&T. Not really sure. More than anything, I just wanted to try it myself.

Would it involve rooting first?

No rooting needed. Just call them or go to a store and they will look up your account to make sure you are in good standing, etc and they will unlock it or give you an app to unlock it once they've set it up to work in their system. They may give you a code you need to input the first time you insert a different SIM.
