Reception

Hello All,

I have been wondering about the random reception on my Note 4. Its not horrible but I feel with a flagship handset and the day and age we live in it should be great. Now please keep in mind I am not speaking about coverage areas with my provider. I'm speaking about call handling and general reception on the handset itself.

I am wondering about firmware having a positive effect on the reception and all antennas within the handset. For example, I have noticed my phone drop calls after being connected and have a discussion for a little whole. I have also noticed the Bluetooth being somewhat poor on the device. People have complained about my call quality being weird, like a robot, tunnel or straight up not being able to hear me. I hang up and reconnect the call and everything (most of the time) would be fine.

You may hate me for saying this, but I feel as if the call quality or antennas on the iPhone are superior to the Samsung line up. But I do also feel as if there should be a fix for this. I have been reading about people have their firmware flashed and it having a highly positive effect on their coverage, not only for the call quality but also for WiFi and Bluetooth.

I'd like to attempt this, but have my carrier perform it for me. It will be sent away for several days and would like to make sure that it would be worth doing this.

Would flashing the firmware on the Note 4 benefit me in anyway, even though my handset runs fine? Would it get potentially worse? Is having the firmware flashed potentially bad and asking for additional issues?

With my current knowledge (which isn't much) I understand this could be something that could benefit the handset and make it run smoother and faster all together?

Let me know!

Are you on VoLTE? If the phone is trying to use VoLTE and you're in a borderline area, the quality might be poor.

Can you just bring your phone into a carrier store? They should be able to flash the firmware there. Or if there are Best Buys near you, they usually have a big Samsung store there that can help.

OK so here's the issue. I'm in Canada. We do not have VoLTE. We have 3G, 4G and for data only LTE. I'm not aware of my current carrier being able to flash the firmware in store. And we finally got a Best Buy in our city, but it currently does not have a Samsung specialist. As far as I know I will have to send the handset away to be flashed.

The question is, will it be worth it?

D'oh!:-\ Ok, do you want to try flashing the firmware yourself, following these handy-dandy instructions? http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...w-flash-stock-rom-via-odin-new-interface.html. Find the proper firmware here: Firmwares - SamMobile

I'm building myself up for the firmware flash myself. I'm nervous because I haven't done this before and the tools are unfamiliar to me. I know that the steps a pretty straight forward but I really don't want to mess this up. Also, Norton Antivirus really doesn't like the programs you've suggested to download. Odin doesn't even open and I don't even know what 7zip is or what it does, and my PC is telling me not to install them, actually it won't let me know install them at all. I can't figure out how to have Norton allow the bypass of the potential threat and install the files. Suggestions?

7-zip is an old reliable--I wouldn't worry about that one. Odin shouldn't be classified as a threat--it's widely used. Not sure how to get Norton to allow it--I would guess there's some option to allow it to install regardless of the warning.

You can trust both Odin and 7zip. Not sure why norton would block them. To turn norton off for a set period, right click the norton icon in the right hand bottom group of running programs on the computer. You will need 15min+ to install and extract 7zip and Odin

On flashing, leave the note and cable alone once the flash has started until you get the pass in Odin.

Ps to the above: You will need administrator rights on the computer to run Odin....
