+1 on incoming calls

Lately I've had an odd problem --

Incoming calls from cell phones have had +1 put at the beginning of the number. The result is that my Note 4 doesn't correlate the number with an existing contact. For example...

Let's say Joe's number is (213) 555-6543, and I have that number stored in a contact for Joe.
When Joe calls me lately, the phone reads the incoming call as being from +1 213 555-6543, and doesn't show Joe's information on the screen or on my car's Bluetooth screen.

I didn't change any settings, but this is a new problem. Can anyone give me some guidance? If it matters, I'm on T-Mo.
