Note4 crashing/rebooting seems widespread

I have talked to people on Sprint forums, Samsung users on various other message boards, Note 4 owners on Twitter and Facebook, seen the various posts and unaddressed issues people have posted here. I'm absolutely confused and disgusted by the lack of action taken by Samsung and various cellular providers to help their customers.

My phone is just over a year old. It is and has always been in a case. It's got no damage, water or otherwise. It's never been rooted. And one day, in September I believe, after an OTA update, my phone began crashing. It would just randomly reboot. Then it began rebooting into Odin mode and getting stuck. I spent almost two hours on the phone with a Sprint representative resetting my phone to factory settings only to have it reboot and freeze the very next day.

I called my "local" Sprint store and was told they no longer offer the device. We also dropped insurance because in 10 years, we made two claims so it wasn't worth it. So in order for a tech to look at my phone, I was going to have to pay $50 and a new Note 4 was going to cost me $75. Our monthly bill is $300 so we want to leave Sprint, leasing a new phone isn't an option, it will extend the contract.

I ran a check on my phone using Odin and it passed. I wiped the cache and partition and set my phone back up. It still crashes. If so many Note 4 users are having these exact same problems, why isn't it being taken seriously?

And for the ones I saw that can't get their phone to turn on after a battery pull, hold the power button, volume down button, and home screen, all with the battery out, for ten seconds. Put the battery back in, press the power button. If nothing happens, try again. Once it kicks on, if it goes to the Odin screen, pull the battery, WAIT, put battery back in, press power. Rinse and repeat. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about these problems. Have you visited a Bestbuy and spoken to a Samsung rep there? It might be worth it and it's possible they could reflash your phone with a new OS on site. Perhaps if you get the Samsung rep involved it may also help your case in getting a replacement phone since this one is apparently having so many problems. In any event, it wouldn't hurt to talk to someone directly. It's possible the OS on your phone is simply corrupted and a reflash might fix it.

Had the same issue with my sprint note 4. They tech said it was a known issue and they even have me a loaner phone for a week till they could get me a replacement. Since it was a known issue they replaced it for free.

All the tech would say was that the older notes were overheating and damaging the boards. He didnt go into much detail. Only that the fix was to keep replacing the phones until they found one that didnt have the older board

I had shipped my phone to samsung first and they said they wouldnt touch it since it was rooted, which i have never done it too and was the first owner.

The tech must have seen it before. He turned it on once saw the reboot, turned it off and started the paperwork for a replacement.

Well, I'm glad you're getting your replacement. By the way, this is not the first time I've heard Samsung claiming a phone was rooted to try to skate on warranty.

I'm having the same issues with my Note 4 , and I have TEP. What are the chances of getting a new or refurbished Note 4 from an Official Sprint repair shop?

Good. But they had to order my replacement. I even went to a large sprint store. They normally have 4 techs working at a time size shop

Update:

Went to the Sprint store, and they happened to have a refurbished unit on hand. I got a free replacement, and everything is awesome again!

My Note 4 has the crash and reboot like others. Not laughing at the funny way my phone hasn't received a security update in 4 months. The name Note is appropriate as it's NOTE to self, this is the last Samsung I buy. Wait and wait for marshmallow while N is being worked on. Dislike the middlemen called Sprint and Samsung. Nexus is next for me.

Mine has been freezing and restarting multiple times a day for the last week. Just started out of the blue. It's not Sprint but ATT. I've deleted all apps I may have installed just before this started, did a cache partition wipe, etc. Last thing left to try is a factory reset, but from what I read it doesn't seem to help. I've only had the phone for a year, brand new from Best Buy.
I could call Samsung, but if it's out of manufacturer warranty, would they still fix or replace it? I do have warranty through Square Trade though...

Thoughts? It's driving me crazy. There is no rhyme of reason for the freezes and restarts...I even switched batteries. UGH.

My sprint note 4 just started doing this completely out of the blue yesterday too. Very strange. Going to try a factory reset anyways, hoping it might work.

Very strange I agree. I'm probably going to try a reset too. And if that doesn't work.....

My Note 4 is also Sprint, and it's been doing this since early February I'd guess. I've seen bad battery performance too such as 15% - 0% in less than a minute at times. Here's how mine goes: the 15% low battery alert goes off, I go back to another room to get the charger, the phone dies just before I plug in the charger. It sometimes decreases normally though, as expected.

Of note: my device details show my phone is on a security patch from Nov. '15. Details of what I mean: settings-about device-Android security patch level-2015-11-01.

I for one am tired of paying this kind of money for phones that can barely make it ONE year. Since the Note 4 came out, I've had to replace it once for bad hardware. It was under warranty, but still it should last longer.

My note 4 is also just randomly restarting on its own. I've tried everything so think Samsung needs to be contacted now x

My Note 4 was having these same symptoms earlier this month and it eventually became unusable. I'm now on my old HTC One M7 (with it's defective camera!) awaiting the arrival of my Nexus 6P. I take very good care of my gear and this type of thing should not happen. Why do Android OEMs use cheap parts? So frustrating...

I didn't check with Sprint as my phone was over a year old and I don't have insurance. I would be interested in knowing if others have had luck getting a replacement from Sprint or Samsung.

I ended up getting a replacement from my Square Trade warranty. This "new" replacement seems to be working great. However I have not yet installed everything I had on the prior one, just trying a few apps at a time...

But yes I shouldn't have had to, the phone was only 14 mos old.

That sounds a lot like a defective battery (though it could be the voltage detection circuitry, I suppose). Have you tried a new battery? It may be worth ten bucks to fix that problem, at least. It might also explain odd reboots and such, if the battery intermittently drops below minimum voltage the phone is going to act oddly.

My Note 4 has been randomly restarted since I can remember, I had my Note 4 since January 2015, even through all the updates it has ever received including the lastest it still randomly reboots, it randomly reboots atleast once every two weeks so that's the ONLY reason it never really bothered me.
