So I purchased my note 5 off contact from best buy. I think all Verizon phones are unlocked at purchase (ie my iPhone 6). Is the note 5? Does it have the radios/bands to run on at&t or T-Mobile?

Thanks!

Re: is my note 5 unlocked?

Yes it's unlocked irrespective of contract or off contract. Verizon has to have it unlocked because of FCC restriction.

So does the Verizon version have the radios inside to run on other networks?

I'm 99.99% sure that a T-Mobile version cannot run on Verizon. But can a Verizon version run on T-Mobile?

Yes not sure if it has band 12 but it should work for the most part. But why do you want to do that? The Verizon version has the ugly Verizon logo with all its bloat, delayed updates, features removed from the phone, locked boot loader. I mean I wouldn't even use that version for any reason.

Ha. I'm on my parents plan. I used to work for Verizon wireless so I got 50% off of my bill. I put it in my name but my parents pay for it. I'm out of contract so its only $15 a month.

I bought my phone outright and always will because since my parents pay for it and they want me off of it for whatever reason I can just take it to straight talk.

Idk. Just want to make sure if I ever need to switch carriers I can.

Re: is my note 5 unlocked?

Is there a field within settings that we can review to confirm that the unit is unlocked? I have an AT&T version, hence the question...

Just stick in an active Verizon 4GLTE sim and change the apn. It most likely won't work though.

I've just bought a Note 5 from Verizon in Best Buy today, for use in Europe (I'm from Belgium and they don't sell it there).
I chose Verizon because I've read they sell unlocked phones, but after reading some more on gsm / lte bands today, I'm not sure anymore it will work on European networks. My carrier supports LTE band 3 (1800mhz).

Could anyone reassure me I can do GSM voice calls, and use both 3G and LTE data with it?

And what features are removed from this phone (cfr. post above)?

Thanks alot!

The Verizon note 5 does support lte band 3. This is what it supports, make sure it has what your carrier needs.

Thanks for the reply.
It appears this is a crucial difference then between a Verizon S6 and a Verizon Note 5. Strange but good to know!

Samsung can tell you. In about device the basband version will tell you if you're unlocked. I've got Sprint, and I just ran into a weird issue trying to update software. I called Samsung +, and they said my phone isn't unlocked despite the message I got, and the custom designation in status.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but you folks sound as if you know what you're talking about. I'm going to have to turn in my wonderful Note 7 because of the battery issues, and I'm considering the Note 5. However, being on Verizon, I need to know for certain whether I could purchase one of the unlocked versions of the Note 5 instead of getting it from Verizon; for some reason they are only selling the 32GB which is disappointing. My Nexus 6 could work on any U.S. carrier, so I'm wondering if the Note 5 is set up the same way with capabilities for both GSM and CDMA bands. Thanks for you advice.
