Smart Lock and Fingerprint lock screen

I got an HTC StereoClip bluetooth dongle to use in my car to stream music to the stereo without a cord I have to replace every 6 months. My T-Mobile Note 5 asked me if I wanted to set it up as a Smart Lock device and I said yes. So now, when I'm listening to music in the car across bluetooth, if I want to unlock my phone (assuming I'm sitting still, safety first) it has me just swipe to unlock (GREAT!) but then I still have to hit the fingerprint scanner on the home button. Is this normal?
