Why doesn't my wifi stay connected?

wifi doesn't stay connected

New Samsung note 5. Connects every where but home. It toggles between connected and disconnected rather quickly. Powered off, no help, checked phone settings, no help. Forget and reconnecting establish connection, no help. Can not seem to get into my router settings. Nothing else in house has this issue. Went to look at buying a new router and the one I bought 3-4 years ago is still the exact one on the market. Any other ideas? I'm not convinced a new router will fix the issue. It is a netgear 3400.

Re: wifi doesn't stay connected

To get into the router, you need to type the router's IP address into the address bar of a browser.
It's very likely 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
The default username should be: admin
Default password: password

From your description it sounds like you may have a congested or interference-heavy WiFi network. You need to determine the best setup for your situation and configure the router and phone accordingly.

To find the best setup try using WiFi Overview 360 or WiFi Analyzer. The free versions are probably all you need but the Pro versions are cheap.

Give the 5GHz and 2.4 GHz bands different SSID names. When setting up the 5GHz band usually it's best to set the router to use a channel well over 100. Over 150 if there's a clear channel. For both bands of course use the channels with the least interference and best signal as indicated by WiFi Overview 360.
