Do I need to activate phone with Verizon before I can start setting up Google?

I would like to smart switch a couple of apps to my new phone, once the darn thing shows up, but I also want to reformat my Note 4 to the most updated Android software while I have a chance and it is activated through Verizon.

No. Just remember it'll be wi-fi only.

I did smart switch between my two phones and set everything up before even put the sim card in mine.

Thank you! I thought I could do it this way but I thought I would ask out here. I have all weekend to set up my phone so I am going to take my time ... if it ever gets here! Where is FedEx, lol!
